Position description
Preclinical MR Imaging and Spectroscopy Core Lab - Junior/Assistant/Associate/Full Specialist The Core imaging lab, (https://radiology.ucsf.edu/research/core-services/ preclinical_MRI_MRS_core) directed by Dr. Renuka Sriram is looking for a Junior/Assistant/Associate/Full Specialist. The applicant will oversee everyday operation of state-of-the-art MR and hyperpolarized systems and associated helium recycling system. There are currently 2 imaging systems - 9.4T zero helium boil off Bruker small animal imaging system equipped with a dual resonance 1H/13C cryo coil, cryogen-free 3T Bruker as well as 2 spectrometers - 500 MHz high resolution spectrometer equipped with HR-MAS capabilities and a 1.4T benchtop permanent magnet. Furthermore, we also have 2 Oxford Hyper sense polarizers and SpinAligner high field low temperature polarizer from Polarize that are used for dissolution dynamic polarization (DNP) techniques. Specifically, this will entail,
- Filling cryogenics (helium and nitrogen) and monitoring helium recycling system status with regards to the cold head compressor,
- General maintenance/overseeing to ensure compliance with good lab practices as well as animal and EH&S policies,
- Regular calibrations to ensure proper functioning of the systems and RF coils,
- Help plan and execute external project requests across pathologies both from with the UCSF and other UC campuses as well as industry collaborations,
- Train new core users on the magnets and polarizers,
- Assist in preparation of specimens and phantoms for MRI investigations,
- Helping with image analysis, and
- Develop and test sequences and RF coils.
Required Qualifications:
- Specialists appointed at the Junior rank must possess a bachelor's degree (or equivalent degree) in chemistry, magnetic resonance (or related field) or at least four years of research experience.
- Specialists appointed at the Assistant rank must possess a master's degree (or equivalent degree) or a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) with three or more years of research experience.
- Specialists appointed at the Associate rank must possess a master's degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of research experience.
- Specialists appointed at the Full rank must possess a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of research experience.
- Applicants must meet all of the qualifications by the time of hire.
- Applicant materials (CV and/or cover letter) must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Magnetic resonance technology proficiency in instrumentation, physics as well as its application.
- Ability to effectively communicate with the core and community.
- Familiarity with image processing toolboxes and development of scripts using Matlab/R/ Python.
- X-nuclei familiarity.
