Summary
The Spire Group is seeking a Claims Specialist to work within the Kansas City, MO area. This position will be responsible for investigating and resolving various types of claims involving the Company.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Administer the self-insured, self-administered general liability, automobile and facility property damage, to both company and other facility owners in the claim process, including collection for damage done by others to Company vehicles and equipment and company facilities.
- Collect for damage to Company owned facilities by others as invoiced by the Company.
- Prepare interrogatory answers and produce documents for lawsuits involving the Company.
- Investigate incidents, claims, and lawsuits on site.
- Type / Write reports and gather records.
- Appear in Small Claims Court on behalf of the Company, if appropriate in the jurisdiction.
- Facilitate awareness programs for other departments.
- Prepare company witnesses for deposition and/or trial.
- Investigations within the Company territory could involve some travel.
- Gather the appropriate company and public records, i.e., police, fire reports, etc., as needed.
- Enter appropriate claim data into the Origami Claims System.
- Maintain a high level of professional ethics and compliance.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the proven ability to build and establish rapport with a diverse array of people.
- Ability to work as part of a team and display a positive attitude for this dynamic environment.
- All other duties as assigned.

Required Education (certifications, licenses)
- High School Diploma / GED, required.
- College Degree, preferred.
- Certification as a Fire Investigator through the Missouri State Fire Marshall's Office preferred or ability to obtain.
Required knowledge, skill and abilities
- Two years of experience with customer contact, both by telephone and in person, preferred.
- Two years of experience responding to incidents and/or performing on scene investigations, preferred.
- Two years of experience with field knowledge of a gas distribution system, preferred.
- Must have professional interpersonal communication skills and the ability to communicate at all levels effectively.
- Knowledge and Understanding of the Origami Claim System.
- Knowledge of basic PC Skills, with an understanding of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of Missouri statute/law of negligence, evidence, One Call program, etc.
- Knowledge of the Company's distribution system and customer-owned facilities.
- Ability to analyze and process a fire/incident scene within industry standards through diagrams, photography, retention of evidence, etc.
- Ability to evaluate and estimate the Company's potential liability exposure and the appropriate monetary reserve needed to settle any and all claims made against the Company.
- Ability to obtain recorded/written statements from Company employees or other individuals.
- Ability to evaluate and negotiate to a successful conclusion any and all claims made against the Company.
- Ability to obtain, review, and summarize medical records, court records, police and/or fire reports, and internal company records.
- Must have the ability to influence others and gain consensus.
Physical demands, environment and schedule
- Work is split between a shared, open-office environment and at other times, the work is performed in wet or humid conditions (non-weather), near moving mechanical parts, in high places, in an area with fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals, in outdoor weather conditions of extreme heat and extreme cold, in extreme heat and extreme cold not related to weather, in an area exposed to vibration, in an area with loud noise for extended periods of time and in cramped or confined spaces, to name some examples.
- Requires work during nonstandard business hours with occasional travel and will require you to be on call during evenings and weekends.
