Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The School of Social Work within the College of Health and Human Services at the University of North Carolina Wilmington ( UNCW) seeks an outstanding faculty member for a Lecturer, nine-month non-tenure track position in the Social Work program beginning August 2025. This position will be primarily located at the UNCW main campus.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, teaching courses in social work, serving on School and College committees, serving as an assistant Field education coordinator, and working closely with the Field education coordinator.
Tasks of this role include but are not limited to: Assisting with the planning and implementation of the policies and procedures that guide field education, participating in the orientation and training for field instructors, arranging field fairs and coordinating field placements, communication with agencies and developing new agency sites. Currently, the typical teaching load for lecturers is four courses per semester, with one administrative course release per semester for assistant field education coordinators.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Social Work from a CSWE Accredited program at the time of application.
  • Five years of practice experience.
  • Qualified candidates will also possess administrative and teaching experience, preferably in an academic setting.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Experience teaching and working with students in a college setting
  • A licensed clinical social worker
  • Experience in field education

  • CSI or CCS certification
  • Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate attention to detail, ability to multitask, and experience in a variety of social work settings

Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The School of Social Work ( SSW) is dedicated to the development of excellent social workers through in-depth education, professional partnerships, applied research, regional engagement, and outreach and impact. Our School prepares our students to help individuals, families, and groups discover and build upon their own strengths and external resources to meet the challenges of poverty, discrimination, health and mental health issues, and other dicult life situations. UNCW social work graduates work in social service, health, and mental health agencies in Southeastern North Carolina, throughout the state, and across the country. The School of Social Work is located in McNeill and Veterans' Hall, state-of-the-art facilities that includes oces, classrooms, a large lecture hall, computer laboratories, a Student Learning Commons and Success Center, and a state-of-the art Simulation Learning Center. Through the use of simulation, we strive to create a realistic environment and a powerful learning experience that promotes cognitive, affective, physical, and social development for Social Work students, while incorporating interprofessional collaborative experiences with students across the other degree programs in the College.

The SSW offers both the BSW and MSW programs from the strengths' perspective, with emphasis on practice labs, small classes, and specially reinforced eld instruction. The MSW program offers two concentrations; a clinical concentration, specialized coursework in solution-focused, cognitive-behavioral, and motivational theories and a macro concentration that focuses on the interaction between the client and large systems.

We are proud to offer the following programs: full-time Bachelor in Social Work programs on the main campus in Wilmington and HST- BSW online, a full- time and advanced standing Master in Social Work program in Wilmington, part-time Master in Social Work program in Wilmington, and four courses towards LCAS credentialing in substance use disorders and addictions. .

The College of Health and Human Services was created in July 2010 to provide UNCW with a new mechanism to link and focus its health-related research, professional continuing education, and health knowledge dissemination and application.
