Network Engineer

Network Engineer (NRG Energy, Inc. (f/k/a Vivint LLC), Lehi, UT)

Design and develop network topologies, including LAN, WAN, and wireless networks. Create detailed network diagrams, schematics, and documentation for both new and existing networks. Select appropriate network hardware (e.g., Cisco, Aruba) and software solutions based on requirements. Install and configure network devices including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and access points. Implement VLANs, subnets, and IP address schemes effectively. Set up and manage routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP, and EIGRP, ensuring accurate route propagation. Utilize network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, NetDisco, WhatsUp Gold) to monitor performance and identify bottlenecks. Conduct regular performance tuning and optimization to enhance network throughput and minimize latency. Deploy and oversee network security measures including firewalls (e.g., Palo Alto, Fortinet), IDS, IPS systems, and VPNs. Diagnose and resolve complex network issues using diagnostic tools like Wireshark, tcpdump, and SNMP. Provide tier-2/3 support for network-related incidents and service requests. Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date network documentation, including configurations, change logs, and inventory. Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., ISO, PCI-DSS, HIPAA) and organizational policies. Use strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively with systems administrators, application developers, and other IT staff to integrate network services. Salary: $78,499 to $102,000 per year.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree or U.S. equivalent in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, plus 3 years of professional experience as Network Engineer, Network Administrator, or any position/occupation/job title involving configuring network and routing protocols.

Must also have experience in the following: 3 years of professional experience with network protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and SNMP; 3 years of professional experience with network security technologies (including firewalls, and VPNs or IDS/IPS); 3 years of professional experience performing network automation and scripting using Python or Ansible; 3 years of professional experience performing cloud networking (including AWS, Azure, or GCP); 1 year of professional experience with SD-WAN and network virtualization (including VMware NSX or Cisco ACI); 1 year of professional experience configuring and managing routing protocols (including OSPF, BGP, and EIGRP); 1 year of professional experience performing network administration using Juniper Mist WiFi, Aruba Clearpass, Nectus, SolarWinds, Meraki SD WAN, Palo Alto firewall, Juniper switch, Cisco router/switch, and Arista router/switch.
