Position Description


Primary Purpose and Essential Functions
The University Supervisor is responsible for supporting, mentoring, and evaluating teacher candidates enrolled in student teaching and intern programs across various credential areas as well as training Mentors and other University Supervisors. This role ensures that candidates meet California Commission on Teacher Credentialing ( CTC) requirements and develop the competencies needed for effective classroom teaching. The supervisor serves as a liaison between the university and school sites, facilitating communication, ensuring alignment of expectations, and supporting the professional growth of candidates. This position requires the ability to travel to local school sites as assigned. Travel may occur during standard business hours, and the employee must be able to arrive at off-site locations reliably and in a timely manner.


  • Observation and Evaluation

    • Conduct regular in-person and/or virtual classroom observations of teacher candidates.
    • Use university-approved observation and evaluation tools aligned with the California Teaching Performance Expectations (TPEs).
    • Provide timely, formative, and summative feedback to candidates following each observation.




  • Mentorship and Support

    • Support candidates in reflective practice, lesson planning, classroom management, and instructional delivery.
    • Collaborate with cooperating/master teachers and site administrators to ensure appropriate support and alignment with program goals.
    • Guide candidates in addressing areas of growth and meeting performance benchmarks.
    • Provide training and support for all mentors and University Supervisors.



  • Communication and Documentation

    • Maintain accurate records of candidate progress, observation notes, and evaluations.
    • Facilitate triad meetings (candidate, cooperating teacher, and supervisor) for midterm and final evaluations.
    • Communicate concerns about candidate progress or conduct to university leadership in a timely manner.



  • Program Compliance

    • Ensure alignment with California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) standards and university policies.
    • Provide supervisor training sessions and participate in program improvement initiatives.
    • Support candidates in preparing for or completing Teaching Performance Assessments (TPAs), as applicable.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Education or related field.
  • Valid California teaching credential and/or administrative credential (dual SPED/MS credential preferred).
  • Minimum of three to five (3-5) years of successful P-12 teaching experience (preferably in California public schools).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Education or related field.
  • Experience mentoring new or pre-service teachers.
  • Experience with online learning platforms and remote supervision tools (e.g., Zoom, SIMBE).
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and mentoring skills.
  • Familiarity with California TPEs, TPAs, and CTC credentialing standards.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Schedule is dependent on the course and department needs. Travel may occur during standard business hours, and the employee must be able to arrive at off-site locations reliably and in a timely manner.

Valid driver's license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the University's fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University and its insurance carrier reserves the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record.
Hiring Range $75,000.00 - $86,000.00 per year. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
