JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Penn State is searching for a full time Heating and Ventilating Technician (Office of Physical Plant) - Grade 3 to join the team. Duties include:
  • Service, maintain, repair, and replace domestic and commercial heating and ventilating systems and auxiliary components
  • Service, maintain, repair, and replace controls and sensing devices necessary for the proper operation of domestic and commercial heating and ventilating systems and auxiliary components, to include changeovers
  • Install and maintain chilled water air conditioning systems and related controls
  • Install and maintain combination heating and air cooling systems and related heat controls
  • Service, maintain, and replace chilled water coils
  • Inspect, maintain, repair, and install building heating supply and return lines; check temperatures in condensing lines and traps; repair or replace traps as required using temperature sensing and recording equipment; clean, repair, or replace strainers, valves, and other fittings as required
  • Adjust building and room controls to maintain prescribed temperature on heat and re-heat systems to include operations requiring heat or re-heat in all seasons
  • Inspect condensate stations to ensure proper operation of heating systems; repair, adjust, or replace controls, repair or replace condensate tanks as necessary
  • Refer repair problems for other trades to supervisor as necessary, i.e., loss of power, pump or motor problems, etc., (problem in the distribution system past the tank)
  • Inspect, clean, repair, calibrate, and install condensate meters
  • Service, maintain, repair, and install air handling equipment, such as univents, fan coil units, exhaust fans, make-up air fans, unit heaters, air handling units for single and multiple zones to include lubrication, filter and coil cleaning, changing belts, bearing cages and blading, balancing air handling equipment and installation and adjustment of pulleys
  • Service, maintain, repair, and install dampers, their drives, control mechanisms and sensing devices; inspect and repair ducting
  • Service, maintain, repair, and install converters, radiators, radiation units, and coils to include valving, traps, strainers, and tubing of units
  • Install and maintain filtering and trapping station in pneumatic air supply lines
  • Make temporary repairs to oil burners and systems
  • Assist oil burner mechanics as necessary
  • Install, maintain, and repair humidification systems equipment
  • Work with lead technician on complicated repairs or on construction of new or special units
  • Direct the work of lower grade employees and apprentices as required
  • Operate motor vehicle as required

MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE

2 to 3 years of effective experience

Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
