Federal Industries is seeking a professional, hands-on, skilled individual for our Engineering Laboratory Supervisor position. Independent Self-Starter - Takes prompt, proactive action to accomplish work goals with limited oversight, and the person in this position will schedule, oversee a group of technicians, maintain test chambers, and perform data validation and review. Manage and execute test plans by estimating equipment and personnel requirements, establishing timelines and milestones, performing testing or supervising technicians, and writing and distributing test reports on time to commitment. - Supervise and oversee Technician activities
- Oversee daily routine laboratory operations
- Maintain quality control standards within required guidelines
- Perform technician training and coaching
- Responsible for laboratory safety
- Oversee related equipment maintenance
- Work with engineering to guarantee that actions are taken whenever test systems and/or data deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications
- Direct observations of routine AHRI, DOE, NSF, and UL safety test performance
- Direct observations of routine lab test performance, abnormal testing, and reliability testing
- Update quality control records, testing results, and preventative maintenance records
- Oversee the selection, training, mentoring, and performance evaluation of assigned technicians
- Resolve technician relations issues and recommend disciplinary action when required
- Assist as needed to perform other related duties and special projects to support the Design Engineering team as required
- Troubleshoot issues, including room conditions, unit/display case under test
- Work with Engineering/ Product management/ Sales/ Technical support to perform root cause analysis during the product development and testing phase
- Review, validate, and summarize data as testing is being completed
- Coordinate with our internal cross-functional groups to maintain the rooms' efficiency and
- Utilization, including engineers, product managers, and stakeholders, to ensure project goals are met
- Help maintain inventory to maximize test request throughput
- Drive the team to achieve yearly goals and assist with implementing 5S principles to ensure a clean, safe, and productive laboratory environment
What You'll Bring:
- Associate's degree in HVACR from a technical school required; 6+ years' experience in HVACR laboratory testing; two to three plus years' experience in a supervisor capacity required
- Bachelor's degree in science preferred; 2+ years' experience in HVACR laboratory
testing; experience in a supervisor capacity preferred
- Prior experience in an ISO 17025-certified lab environment required
- Demonstrated technical skills in data interpretation and the ability to troubleshoot
- Demonstrated ability to take and follow direction and to know where the resources are for their direction
- Possess the ability to lead high high-performance technical team
- LabVIEW, basic wiring, and instrumentation experience are a plus
- Proficiency in laboratory processes and test equipment as it relates to refrigeration systems, including A2L/A3 systems
- Proficient in working with data sets and validation of data
- Knowledge and experience working with AHRI, DOE, UL, CSA, and NSF Standards
- Ability to direct others as well as take direction from others
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, and general working knowledge of the Internet for business use
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced, high-stress, deadline-driven environment
- Thesis or publications in the fields of Thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, etc., preferred.
- Ability to write Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the engineering lab
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills
- EPA 608 certification preferred
- Willingness to share and receive information and ideas from all levels of the organization to achieve the desired results
Working Conditions: The Engineering Test Lab is located separately from the office area on the production floor. The lab has its own climate-controlled office area and is connected to the Lab test rooms and model shop. Work will be performed both sitting and standing, will require walking, kneeling, and some lifting/carrying of equipment and components (50 lbs.).
