Sr. Systems Engineer - 25-014 - San Diego, California

AUSGAR Technologies has an exciting, NEW opportunity for a Sr. Systems Engineer to join our team of smart and innovative technical team members working in the Point Loma area of San Diego, California.

  • Provide administrative, design and implementation services for a network of Linux servers, desktops and laptop devices.
  • Serve as a system engineer and administrator for four-dozen Linux servers, desktops and laptops, including support for advanced scientific users of those systems.
  • Perform Linux system administration, troubleshooting and engineering of hardware and software environments, including operating systems and after-market applications.
  • Maintain Information Assurance (IA) compliance status for Linux hosts and applications.
  • Identify cybersecurity vulnerabilities and compliance issues with various Linux-based servers, desktops and laptops.
  • Remediate vulnerabilities and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Independently design, test, implement, document and maintain security solutions for Linux systems.
  • Install and manage RedHat and openSUSE Linux systems.
  • Manage Linux system services, including LUKS, encrypted filesystems, cron, scheduling SELinux, firewalld host-based firewalls, Kerberos, Subversion and LDAP databases.
  • Manage Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) (CAC smartcard) solutions for Linux systems.
  • Provision, monitor and troubleshoot Linux RAID storage systems.
  • Provision, monitor and troubleshoot TCP/IP networks, including host-based firewalls, switches, routers and cabling.
  • Administer, secure and STIG database servers, including PostgreSQL and MariaDB.
  • Administer, secure and STIG Apache and Nginx web servers.
  • Support, secure and administer open-source applications running on Linux, as well as Gitlab and OpenProject, including end-user support for these applications.
  • Integrate LDAP and Kerberos authentication with Linux systems and applications.
  • Conduct RMF security assessments using ACAS (Tenable) and STIGs.
  • Utilize manual and automated methods for completing STIG checks for Linux, network devices and applications.
Requirements

  • Secret clearance required; Top Secret preferred.
  • Minimum Security+ CE AND Linux +CE or RHCSA (Red Hat Certified System Administrator) certs (must be obtained within 90 days with the goal of achieving DoD Cybersecurity Workforce Framework (CSWF) certification if not already so certificated.
  • Bachelor of Science degree with focus in Computer Science/Information Technology or related field from an accredited college/university and five plus years of applicable experience.
  • Able to design new networks/systems and recommending purchases of hardware and software to meet on-going requirements.
  • Experience writing scripts with Bash or other scripting languages.
  • Experience with TCP/IP Ports, Protocols and Services.
  • Shell programming required.
  • Familiar with information assurance processes and procedures, including STIGs, ACAS scanning, DADMS registration, vulnerability remediation and the RMF ATO process.
  • Excellent analytical skills to troubleshoot and resolve high-level, complex, technical problems.
  • Willingness to work off-hours and weekends as needed.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with cryptography, PKI, ssh, Smartcards, etc.
  • Electronic technician training - Useful for hardware support and maintenance.
  • Basic computer science training, Boolean algebra, number theory, etc.
  • Programming language familiarity.
  • UNIX/Linux generalized training - UNIX/Linux methods/processes are different from Windows that training should be specific.
  • Generalized network training - Should be familiar with TCP/IP networking, IPv4/6 addressing, routers, switches, firewalls, etc.
  • Government procurement familiarity - DAIWA certification.
  • Training in computer security fundamentals, intrusion detection/prevention and forensic analysis.

Salary Range: $140K-160K

An essential qualification for this position is having a security clearance issued by the Federal Government, which may require successful completion of a background check.

AUSGAR's salary range is dependent upon a variety of factors, which include experience, skills, education, certifications and geographical location. Our salary range includes a base salary and excellent benefits package as part of our total compensation.
