Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced VMware Subject Matter Expert (SME) to serve under a federal IT contract. The VMware SME will be responsible for architecting, managing, optimizing, and troubleshooting VMware virtualized environments supporting IT operations. This role requires deep expertise in VMware vSphere, NSX, vSAN, Site Recovery Manager (SRM), and enterprise cloud migration strategies. The ideal candidate will design scalable and secure virtual infrastructures while ensuring compliance with security policies, disaster recovery requirements, and network integrations.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Design, implement, and maintain VMware vSphere environments, ensuring high availability and scalability.
  • Manage virtual machine (VM) provisioning, resource allocation, and performance tuning across production and disaster recovery sites.
  • Implement and maintain VMware NSX-T for software-defined networking, ensuring seamless virtual workload migrations and micro-segmentation security policies.
  • Lead VMware-based cloud migration initiatives, integrating on-premises VMware environments with AWS Strides and Azure Government Cloud.
  • Manage VMware vSAN environments, optimizing distributed storage solutions for application hosting.
  • Configure, monitor, and test VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM) failover workflows, ensuring rapid recovery during IT disruptions.
  • Ensure VMware environments adhere to security directives, mitigating risks through patch management, access control enforcement, and automated monitoring.
  • Monitor virtualized workloads using ExtraHops, Dynatrace, and VMware vRealize Operations, ensuring peak performance and resource efficiency.
  • Implement capacity planning strategies, forecasting future virtualization needs and making data-driven expansion recommendations.
  • Work alongside NetOps to troubleshoot VMware networking issues, including distributed switching, VLAN tagging, and network overlay configurations.
  • Ensure VMware infrastructure aligns with cybersecurity mandates, enforcing FIPS 140-2 encryption standards and federal security policies.
  • Integrate Active Directory authentication with VMware environments, enforcing Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) for secure VM management.
  • Collaborate with Incident Response Team (IRT) to identify, analyze, and mitigate security vulnerabilities within VMware environments.


Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience managing enterprise VMware environments.
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP-DCV)
  • Expertise in VMware vSphere 7.0 or higher, vSAN, NSX-T, and Site Recovery Manager (SRM).
  • Strong knowledge of cloud integration strategies, including AWS Strides and Azure Government Cloud migrations.
  • Experience with virtual networking configurations and performance tuning.
  • Hands-on experience with monitoring tools such as VMware vRealize Operations, ExtraHops, and Dynatrace.
  • Proficiency in storage replication solutions such as NetApp SnapMirror for DR failover.


Preferred Certifications:



  • VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP)
  • VMware NSX-T Certification
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate or Azure Administrator Associate
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)


Compensation and Benefits

The projected compensation range for this position is $150,900 to $195,700 per year benchmarked in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The target salary is $170,500. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Salary at LCG is determined by various factors, including but not limited to role, location, the combination of education/training, knowledge, skills, competencies, certifications, and work experience.
