Overview
This position is opening for a field technician to assist with graduate research in Glendo, Wyoming. You will assist the graduate student in their attempt to better understand whether the damage assessment methods currently used by Wyoming Fish and Game are adequate for assessing ungulate damage in alfalfa and corn fields. You will be required to move to the Glendo facility for the duration of the summer, 2025. Housing is provided, as well as a kitchen and shower, and restroom.

Responsibilities
You will assist the graduate student placing exclusionary cages in alfalfa fields, collecting alfalfa yield data, and assessing cornfields for wildlife damage. There will be days with long, sustained hours in summer heat. You will collect data with as much precision and attention to detail as possible. You will work individually or with a small field crew, and will be expected to communicate well with all parties involved with the project. The relationships made between us, the producers we will be working with and Wyoming Game and Fish are extremely important, so no vandalism or littering will be tolerated and utmost respect is expected at all times.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, flexible, willing to work long days, and an excellent communicator.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Offroad experience in a 4wd vehicle as well as a manual transmission vehicle is preferred.

The individual must be willing to work long days in adverse conditions such as high winds, possibly storms, and hot days for long periods of time. You must be able to lift items weighing up to 50 lbs. Much of this work requires an elevated level of fitness. You must also be able to live in a rural location all summer long. May be asked to drive offroad in a 4wd vehicle as well as manual transmission vehicles.
