Overview

The Technology & Cyber Business Risk & Controls (BR&C) Executive is a first line of defense risk professional that oversees multiple BRC teams responsible for support and execution of technology & cyber risk programs and activities in adherence with the Company's Risk Appetite and Corporate Strategy. This leader will establish relationships with business executives to provide expert guidance, communicate risk related information and serve as a communication channel between Risk Management, regulators, and business units; at times representing the business in various risk and operational committee meetings. This position will also oversee the execution of risk policies, procedures and/or program requirements, lead strategy discussions and promote an environment of risk awareness and risk ownership across the organization. As a leader of this vertical, managing the recruitment, training, and development process for staff will be critical.


Responsibilities

Areas of Focus

Risk Strategic Activities

  • Partners with senior executives to create technology & cyber risk management strategies ensuring key risks are appropriately managed and are aligned.
  • Advises on technology & cyber risk considerations for business and/or strategic plans.
  • Effectively challenges risk programs outputs, ensuring bank and regulatory alignment.
  • Recommends enhancements to internal controls, ensuring control testing is in place and results are in line with the Control Standards

Risk Governance and Reporting

  • Oversees the development of risk reports that provide comprehensive view of risks that impacts and monitors business risk and control performance.
  • Oversees the communication of Top and Emerging trends and actions needed to address impacts.
  • Ensures established business Risk Limits are appropriately incorporated into core processes and are aligned with the Bank's risk appetite.
  • Partners with technology & cyber senior executives in relevant risk governance meetings, utilizing an understanding of the business operations, risks, controls and related laws and regulatory guidance.
  • Ensures timely communication around current and emerging issues and regulatory requirements.

Risk Program Implementation

  • Provides feedback and collaborates on relevant governance documents to support BU activities and manage risk.
  • Oversees the implementation of risk program policies, standards and procedures.
  • Coordinates risk assessments to evaluate and manage key risks.
  • Partners with business leaders and stakeholders to develop action plans and mitigation strategies to address root causes and prevent issue recurrence.
  • Partners with other functions (i.e. Compliance, 2LOD) to ensure alignment with broader risk management and governance objectives
  • Oversees regulatory inquiries, examinations, and audits in collaboration with internal stakeholders along with regulatory submissions, response and reporting requirements, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely submission.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and findings and assess their potential impact on the organization's risk profile and regulatory compliance.

Managerial Functions

  • Leads BRC teams, establishing expectations to achieve departmental goals and the Bank's business priorities
  • Makes appropriate changes to team processes, procedures and efficiencies to meet objectives.
  • Manages the performance training and evaluation of staff.
  • Maximizes department achievements by providing professional development
  • Participates in mandatory risk training and educates BU personnel on key risk programs and topics
  • Develops and manages short- and long-term staffing needs

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and 15 years of experience in financial services with first line risk management, enterprise risk or operational risk and a strong preference for an advanced degree and experience with Technology and Cyber risk functions.

Preferred Licenses or Certifications: CRCM, PMP, CERP, CAMS; ISACA CISA, ISACA CRISC

Additional Requirements

  • Knowledge of operational and enterprise risk management, including identification, assessment, and escalation of risk issues within technology & cyber
  • Ability to track and coordinate large complex processes with detail orientation
  • Knowledge of regulatory guidance pertaining to enterprise and operational risk as well as risk control frameworks
  • Experience working within a merger & acquisition environment, to include integration activity and ability to scale
  • Skilled at preparing and presenting robust information professionally and succinctly for executive and board level audiences as well as satisfying reporting expectations
  • Excellent leadership & management skills
  • Project management or consulting experience
  • Ability to influence and drive strategic change across organization
  • Ability to build relationships with Senior Leaders across the organization
  • Strong analytical acumen and ability to problem solve
  • Effective conflict management skills
