Posting Summary |
The lab of Dr. Harini Sampath at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking a postdoctoral
associate to carry out studies related to intestinal lipid metabolism and cancer risk and progression, using transgenic mouse models.
The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a publication record consistent with career level, and an interest in understanding regulation of cancer cell metabolism. Expertise in the use of transgenic mouse models and mammalian cell culture is required. Experience with intestinal biology and generation of organoids and/or experience with high-throughput data analysis is highly preferred. Also preferred is a background in biochemistry/molecular biology with technical knowledge in basic biochemical techniques, including
IHC/IF,
EMSA,
FACS, siRNA, protein and nucleic acid chemistry, lipid extractions and analyses. Experience with studies of lipid metabolism is preferred but not required. Proficiency in oral and written English is required. Salary will be commensurate with experience and follow

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
Ph.D. degree in relevant area of science, such as Nutritional Science, Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology, is required. Also required are strong communication skills, a publication record consistent with career level, and a strong background in cell and molecular biology, as well as physiology. Proficiency in oral and written English is required. |

Equipment Utilized |
Will use all of the typical laboratory equipment for biochemical, cellular and molecular biology experiments. Will use Excel spreadsheets, Word processing software, and graphing and statistical analysis software. |
Physical Demands and Work Environment |
Must be able to lift 20 pounds, and to have direct contact with rodents. |
Overview |
1. Conducts experiments aimed at studying the interplay between lipid metabolism and tumor development/progression using transgenic animal models and cells.
2. Keeps records of work, analyzes data, assists in the preparation of manuscripts for publications. Responsible for coherent documentation to enable effective analysis. A legibly written continually updated laboratory notebook is required.
3. Maintains laboratory equipment, co-ordinates hazardous waste removal, keeps inventory of supplies. Expected outcome is a proper adherence to all health and safety inspection protocols and regulations.
4. Assists in animal colony maintenance, training students, postdocs, and other part-time hourly personnel in experimental techniques, and the proper use of equipment and machinery in the laboratory. Expected outcome is an efficiently run experimental procedure with reliable results. |
Statement |
This is a grant funded position renewable up to one year contingent upon funding and satisfactory performance. |
