DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a welding intern, you will collaborate closely with skilled professionals to fabricate and repair a variety of equipment and trucks through diverse welding techniques. Your responsibilities will include assisting with fieldwork, specifically welding and repairing bridge structures, which involves tasks such as structural welding of bridge components, repairing equipment frames, and fabricating parts for various applications. You will utilize methods like oxy-acetylene, electric arc, and heli-arc welding to join metals, including steel, aluminum, and stainless steel. Additionally, you will learn to straighten bent and twisted equipment and brackets, adapting your approach to meet the demands of different projects. Further duties will be outlined in discussions with the Commonwealth supervisor.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Work schedule will vary based on agreement between high school and COPA location
- If this will be the student's junior year, the option may exist for the student to continue through senior year.
- This internship will run June 2025 to June 2026

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Internship Requirements:
- You must be at least 16 years of age.
- You must be a junior or senior enrolled in high school during the 2025 - 2026 school year.
Additional Requirements:
- You must be a vo-tech (career and technical center) student in an approved cooperative vocational training program that has prepared the student for the duties and the description of work described in this posting.
- Work Permit: Minors will be required to submit their Work Permit upon acceptance of this position.
- By participating in this program, the student and school agree to use the Commonwealth's Training Plan, Statement of Responsibilities, and Student Performance Evaluation. Forms will be provided to the student upon acceptance of this position.
- Letter of Recommendation: You must attach a Letter of Recommendation from your school's co-op coordinator, career or guidance counselor, or similar school professional indicating you meet your school's requirements and are being recommended for this opportunity.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
