The Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute at West Virginia University Research Corporation is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) Senior Research Scientist position.

About the Opportunity

This position will be part of a research team to conduct preclinical and human research studies with Focused Ultrasound (FUS) neuromodulation and Blood brain barrier opening.

What You'll Do



  • Participate in preclinical and clinical studies and develops new protocols.
  • Use of state-of-the-art imaging technology to study the neuroscience of human brain connectivity in conjunction with FUS treatments.
  • Works independently and with a research team to carry out FUS-based studies.
  • Design and implementation of research projects.
  • Data analysis and reporting/publishing of the projects.
  • Working with image analytics and technical support teams.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Neuroscience, Radiology, Neurobiology, Biomedical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, or similar science/engineering-related field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the following:

    • Neuroscientist with experience working with structural and function connectivity in the brain.


  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience using focused ultrasound technology for brain treatments.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities



  • Conducting applied human research studies with FUS
  • Conducting preclinical research studies with FUS
  • Publishing and presenting scientific reports.
  • Background experience and knowledge:

    • Neurogenetics: chromatin remodeling, gene regulation and synaptic RNA dynamics in neurons
    • Genome Imaging: Advanced imaging and analysis of chromatin architecture in the brain
    • Computational Neuroscience: Bioinformatics and machine learning for genomic and imaging analyses
    • Gene Therapy: DNA/RNA-based therapeutics and gene editing in neurological disorders


  • Experience working on and submitting federal awards (NIH, NSF, DOD)
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to create, annotate and maintain detailed research records.
  • Working knowledge of scientific research methods and IRB policies and procedures
  • Ability to prepare and present information in one-on-one or general scientific audience settings.
  • Ability to conduct data analytics and preparation of reports and/or publications.

The WVURC was created as a not-for-profit corporation in 1985 to support research (R1) at West Virginia University. We provide evaluation, development, patenting, management, and marketing services for inventions of the faculty, staff and students of the University.

The WVURC receives and administers funds awarded by external agencies for research and other activities and is responsible for helping protect intellectual property through patents, copyrights and licensing agreements for start-up companies based on University research.
