About the role:

Are you passionate about designing innovative logistics solutions and leading high-performing teams? Do you have a keen understanding of transportation modes and project logistics, along with strong leadership capabilities? Join us at Maersk Project Logistics, where we provide integrated and tailored solutions for our clients across North America and globally.

As a Head of Solution Design, you'll play a crucial leadership role in designing and optimizing transportation solutions, collaborating with a variety of subcontractors and service providers. You'll also lead and coach a team of logistics professionals, ensuring high performance and proactive problem-solving. This role offers a unique opportunity to be part of a dynamic team, supporting both internal stakeholders and clients. You'll focus on designing efficient solutions that include ocean freight, airfreight, barge, truck, rail, and other transport modes, as well as managing warehouses, export packers, terminals, and cargo handling companies.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead and Coach Team Members: Manage, mentor, and develop a team of solution designers and logistics professionals to ensure consistent performance, professional growth, and alignment with business goals.

  • Design Transport Solutions: Work with approved Maersk subcontractors and service providers to create and manage pricing and logistics for cargo transported both within North America and internationally.

  • Support Major Bids: Assist the MPL Growth team with major bid proposals, ensuring all modes of transport are considered (ocean, air, truck, barge, rail) and that accurate pricing is provided.

  • Handle Escalations: Act as the escalation point for complex challenges in the solution design process, ensuring timely resolution and minimal disruption to operations or client expectations.

  • Market Research: Stay updated on project logistics and transportation infrastructure in North America, including specialized heavy and oversized cargo handling.

  • Provider Recommendations: Evaluate and recommend the best service providers based on cost, reliability, and service requirements.

  • Work with Cargowise and Excel: Prepare pricing proposals for oversized and heavy cargo transport using Cargowise and other software, including creating larger project logistics bid packages when necessary.

  • Industry Engagement: Attend industry events and conferences to build relationships with service providers, stay ahead of industry trends, and represent Maersk Project Logistics in a leadership capacity.

  • Travel: Occasionally travel for meetings, conferences, or site visits to support team management and client engagements.

What you bring:

  • Leadership Experience: Proven experience leading teams, including coaching, performance management, and developing talent in a fast-paced logistics or supply chain environment.

  • Escalation Management: Demonstrated ability to manage and resolve operational and client escalations effectively and diplomatically.

  • Project Logistics Expertise: Strong knowledge of the project logistics market in North America, including experience with subcontractors and all transport modes (ocean, air, truck, barge, rail).

  • Multi Layered Project Solution Design: Encompassing all service components of an end to end solution design.

  • Regulatory Understanding: Knowledge of the regulatory framework and commitment to operating within Maersk's QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment) standards.

  • Evaluation Skills: Ability to evaluate and recommend the most effective and cost-efficient solutions for clients.

  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate ideas and lead discussions with both internal teams and external clients.
