JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Penn State is searching for a full time Waste Water Treatment Plant Worker, Spray Field - Grade 6 to join the team. Duties include:
  • Inspect effluent spray distribution systems; install, maintain, repair and replace equipment as necessary to include piping, posts, spray heads, valves, etc.; use various measuring instruments including gauges, transits, etc.; record and report malfunctions as they are observed
  • Perform maintenance and repairs to include lubrication of equipment, repacking valves, exercising valves, repairing all pipe and valve leaks, cutting and threading pipe, painting posts, etc.
  • Open and close valves, drains and vents on the spray effluent distribution piping as directed and/or following a prescribed schedule
  • As scheduled, collect water samples from test areas and wells following prescribed procedures; adjust water rate at wells to draw sample at proper flow rate
  • Maintain buildings located at the spray fields in a clean, neat and orderly condition
  • Replace or repair gutters, exterior paneling, downspouts, garage door equipment etc., as necessary; remove debris from roof, gutters, downspouts, drains, etc.; perform minor plumbing repairs
  • Read site plan of spray distribution system configuration
  • Operate various types of machinery and equipment including skid steer loaders, mowers, chainsaws, stump grinders, etc. to clear brush, maintain grounds and roadways, and remove snow
  • Perform minor repairs on grounds equipment
  • Convert equipment for seasonal use and various functions; remove and sharpen blades such as those on mowers, stump grinders, chainsaws, etc.; change oil, lubricants and hydraulic fluid; change tires, belts, wiper blades, and spark plugs; charge or replace batteries
  • As necessary, drive tank truck; operate truck and trailer to transport equipment
  • Take daily meter readings in spray field area as directed
  • Maintain computer inventory spreadsheet. As required, assist Water Reclamation Facility operators and mechanics with routine and preventative maintenance of pumps, sludge press, chemical feed pumps, blowers, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE

6 to 9 months of effective experience

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License Class A with Endorsement N and without Restriction L - Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicator Certification with Category 10 - Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. This position is subject to federal Department of Transportation testing for alcohol and controlled substances (49 CFR PART 40), and physical examination requirements as per PA. CODE 231.85. Penn State does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of a staff employment Visa. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.
