We are seeking a dynamic, creative and analytical candidate to help us assess the performance and influence the capability development of surface-based sonar and combat systems. We are looking to push the boundaries of system capabilities by providing critical support to the U.S. Navy's advanced development integration and testing community. Your contributions will have direct and immediate impact, enabling decision makers to make informed choices on the future direction of the Navy's surface-based ASW systems.

You will join a hardworking and expert team of engineers, subject matter experts and software tool developers in a team environment that values collaboration and novel ideas. As a Surface Sonar Acoustic Analyst...

  • Conduct detailed acoustic analysis, system performance evaluation, and event reconstruction of Navy surface ship sonar and combat system testing. Assessments will cover developmental and in-service systems.
  • Interface with analysis team members, developers, and external partners to explore and determine analysis methodology, appropriate measures of performance, and required data to execute analysis.
  • Participate in planning and testing at developer or fleet facilities in support of assessment of U.S. Navy surface sonar and combat systems.
  • Prepare detailed briefings on analysis methodology and results. Brief results to PEO-IWS-5, fleet stakeholders, and external organizations as required.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Are qualified as a U.S. Navy Acoustic Intelligence (ACINT) Specialist (NEC 0416/0708B).
  • Have extensive background in LOFAR and/or pulsed active sonar, ACINT Data Collection, event reconstruction, localization, and training associated with the detailed operational employment of Surface Warfare sonar systems and/or other Undersea Warfare ASW sonar systems.
  • Are passionate about applying operational experience and analytical skills in an innovative environment.
  • Have strong interpersonal skills, are skilled at developing relationships across organizational teams and have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Are Surface Warfare and/or Submarine Warfare Specialist designated.
  • Have significant at-sea experience evaluating acoustic system data.
  • Have previous experience operating and/or assessing U.S. Navy Surface ASW systems or other Undersea Warfare ASW systems.
  • Are willing and physically able to support at-sea test and evaluation.
  • Have 5+ years of experience in technical team leadership.
  • Hold an active Top Secret clearance.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
