Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Assistant Research Technician. The successful candidate will perform transgenic mouse sperm and embryo cryopreservation, be responsible for the long-term maintenance of storage tanks, manage mouse colonies, including tails and ear sample preparation, perform genomic DNA extraction from mouse samples, and perform karyotyping. Additional responsibilities include assisting in the preparation of reagents, shipping-related duties and performing a variety of complex laboratory tasks of a routine nature as well as methods development and standardized procedures to provide high quality support for the research community.
Job Responsibilities:
- Providing support with assisted reproductive technology services
- Performing In vitro fertilization of mouse eggs with transgenic mouse frozen sperm
- Performing cryopreservation of transgenic mouse sperm and embryos
- Performing surgical transfer of embryos to surrogate female mice
- Occasional weekend work for superovulation treatment
- Performing molecular biology methods such as DNA purification and PCR
- Animal colony management
- Performing tissue collection and tagging for identification of mice
- Weaning and distribution of mice to on-campus and off-campus clients
- Superovulation for production of embryos for genetic manipulation
- Providing customer service
- Coordination of frozen samples shipping
- Maintaining databases of transgenic mice sperm and embryos cryopreservation
- Monitoring and recording daily animal health and welfare
- Maintenance and upkeep of all instruments and laboratory facilities, core laboratory procedures and practices, including quality control and compliance
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Life Sciences or related field. This is an entry-level position. Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of transgenic mouse facilities experience
- Demonstrated experience in molecular biology procedures such as DNA purification, PCR, molecular cloning, and genotyping
- Experience in research animal management, sampling, husbandry, and breeding
- Efficient record keeping ability
- Advanced communication skills with people of diverse backgrounds
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
