Position Description As the Purchasing Team Lead, you will be a strategic and tactical leader responsible for guiding purchasing operations while performing key functions of a master buyer. This role requires a high degree of supplier knowledge, technical understanding, cost control and the ability to coach a team toward success. Reporting directly to the Purchasing Manager, you will lead procurement excellence and supplier performance while helping manage a segment of the purchasing team. Job Duties & Responsibilities
Indirectly supervise and mentor team members using KPIs and project milestones to track performance Onboard and train new buyers, facilitate departmental training and continuous improvement sessions Coordinate buyers in procurement activities, assist in managing supplier relationships and ensure we consider lead time, cost and quality when making data-based decisions Manage high-value, complex purchasing activities including critical part sourcing Implement process and system changes within the department. Updating and periodically reviewing standard works Ensure procurement practices align with company standards, ethics and safety commitments Act as the voice of the purchasing team in meetings, capture action items and delegate them to the appropriate parties to ensure flow of communication and follow ups Forecast material requirements and develop cost reduction and inventory optimization initiatives Serve as the key point of contact for strategic supplier negotiations and contracting Assist in monitoring supplier performance and implementation of performance programs Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as finance, engineering and project management Conduct in depth market analysis and monitor market trends to make informed purchasing decisions Conduct risk mitigation plans and supplier management reviews to drive supplier performance improvement Champion continuous improvement projects to streamline purchasing workflows Support supplier audits and expedite efforts as needed, including both domestic and international travel Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written Must be able to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment Commitment to safety Effective planning, organizational and time management skills Must be able to handle sensitive and proprietary information confidentially and with discretion
Qualifications
BA/BS degree in Supply Chain or related field (not required, preferred) APICS, CPIM or ISM, CPSM certification preferred 5+ years of related procurement experience including purchasing, inventory control, supply management, and supplier relationships At least 2 years of team leadership experience and proven ability to lead a team effectively Demonstrated success as a senior or master level buyer Previous manufacturing/OEM experience in an Engineer to Order environment is essential Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel (advanced) Knowledge of MRP Systems required Proven track record of cost savings and continuous improvement Ability to travel domestically and internationally-5% of time (US, Canada & Mexico)
