Responsibilities

Job Summary
The Foundation Controller is responsible for maintaining and continuously improving the system of financial records and controls, including general accounting, donor database management, investment accounting, planning, budgeting, and banking. Designs, monitors, and provides leadership over financial and operational controls throughout the organization to ensure financial benchmarks are achieved in accordance with the long range goals of the organization. Integrates financial planning with the long-term strategic planning. Provides leadership and guidance in facilitating the complete external audit process, including preparation and analysis of the consolidated financial statements, management letter, and presentation to key leaders of the organization and board of directors. Key financial leader responsible for ongoing and timely quarterly financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders. The Foundation Controller is responsible for documenting, updating, and ensuring compliance with the Foundations accounting policies and procedures.
Essential Functions
  • Responsible for Financial Operating departments to assure the accurate and timely completion of the monthly financial statements, annual audit reports, and the 990-tax filing. Oversees general ledger, subsidiary ledgers and other accounting records needed for preparation of the financial statements and other required financial data. Liaisons with outside auditors and manages the annual financial audit activities, directing the staff to provide information and access to general ledger and other accounting records as required.
  • Oversees the donor database and the recording of revenue. The Foundation Controller will work closely with the Development team on revenue projections and forecasting. This role will be an active member of the Executive Team and will collaborate with all functional areas to develop formal business plans that are presented to Executive Staff or the Board as appropriate. Performs posting of investment activity on monthly basis. Act as a liaison with custodial bank, investment advisors, and investment managers. Reconcile investment balances per books to custodial bank statements. Report on investment cash flows for Finance Committee and Board of Trustees.
  • Oversees the staff and ensure adequate staffing levels, inclusive of hiring/onboarding, evaluating, managing performance, coaching and developing employees ensuring employee productivity, quality of work, and alignment of goals with our mission, vision, and values. Ensures compliance with all policies, financial stewardship by being accountable for the financial integrity around development and maintenance of department budget.
  • Oversees the annual development of the next year's operating and capital budgets. Prepare cash flow projections including pledge schedules. Monthly review of budget vs actual performance with variance analysis.
  • Oversees the management and control of all financial management applications. Includes, Financial Edge, Raiser's Edge, Premier, IDEA, Service Now and Strata Jazz.
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree Business, Accounting or Finance - Required
Experience
  • 2 years Supervisory experience - Required
  • 2 years healthcare accounting/strategic financial management - Preferred
  • 7 years Accounting/Strategic financial management - Required
Licenses and Certifications
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Certified Public Accountant - Preferred
