JOB DESCRIPTION:

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The four year educational program is designed to prepare the resident for the varied demands of a career of general adult and child psychiatry. It is expected the resident will gain clinical experience with the evaluation and management of acute and chronic mental health patients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reach milestones in accordance with level of training in each rotation and post graduate year (PGY).
  • Develop a program of self-study and professional growth with guidance from the attending teaching faculty.
  • Participate in a safe, effective, cost-effective and compassionate patient care facility with appropriate supervision, in keeping with the resident's level of training, responsibility and clinical acumen.
  • Participate in institutional programs and activities involving the medical staff and adhere to established practices, procedures, and policies of the Institution.
  • Develop an understanding of ethical, socio-economic, and medical/legal issues in medicine, and learn how to apply cost containment measures in the provision of patient care.
  • Maintain a satisfactory record of assigned patients for who he/she has primary care. Copies of these records shall be filed monthly with the Program Director and shall be available for inspection.
  • Participate fully in the educational and research/scholarly activities of the programs and assume responsibilities for teaching and supervising other residents and medical students.
  • Write one professional research project pertinent to psychiatry which is suitable for publication.
  • Participate in all professional staff activities involving patient care and evaluation as assigned.
  • Attend minimum of required % of didactics, all in a timely fashion, only with prior approval for dismissal.
  • Successful completion by evaluation of attending(s) and demonstration of skills in each of the assigned rotations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Effectively communicate via written, verbal, in person and virtual methods.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education Level

Graduate of colleges of allopathic medicine accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or osteopathic medicine accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) who have successfully passed NBOME COMPLEX Boards. Residents in psychiatry must be members of the specialty college.
