Position Summary

The Salvation Army Minneapolis Parkview Corps is "Doing the Most Good" by providing holistic, person-centered services to individuals and families. In addition to worship services and pastoral care, services include short and long-term case management; food, clothing, utility, rent, and housing support; and connections to community partners.

The Summer Day Camp Assistant supports a safe, structured, and engaging environment for children by assisting with daily activities, supervising campers, supporting behavior guidance, and communicating with parents and guardians throughout the camp day.

$17 - $19/hour, 24 hours/week

Temporary - 8 weeks

Essential Functions (approximate time spent)



  • Camper Supervision & Engagement (60%): Actively supervise and engage with campers to ensure their safety, participation, and positive experience throughout the day.
  • Program Support (20%): Assist in facilitating scheduled activities, games, and group sessions under the direction of program leadership, helping to create a structured and fun environment.
  • Behavior Guidance (10%): Model respectful behavior and manage camper conduct through positive reinforcement, redirection, and conflict resolution aligned with program policies.
  • Parent & Camper Communication (5%): Support daily check-in/check-out procedures, communicate with parents regarding camp policies, and ensure accurate records for attendance and payments.
  • Facility & Meal Assistance (5%): Help maintain clean, organized program spaces and assist with snack and meal preparation, serving, and clean-up.



Education and Experience



  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior experience working with children in a camp, school, recreational, or youth program setting preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certification are preferred; training will be provided if not currently certified.
  • Must pass background checks, possess a valid driver's license, and meet MVR requirements, including being at least 18 years of age.

Working Conditions



  • Active and physical environment, primarily indoors with occasional outdoor activities.
  • Requires standing, walking, bending, and participating in games or physical activities for extended periods.
  • May involve lifting or carrying supplies (up to 25 lbs).
  • Noise level can be moderate to high depending on activity.
  • Requires availability during program hours, which may include early mornings or late afternoons.
  • On-site role; not eligible for a remote-friendly work environment.



Travel/Driving Requirements



  • Frequent travel by agency vehicle throughout the metro area to support the mission.
