A Brief Overview
The Environmental Services Manager is the immediate supervisor of bargaining unit employees within the Environmental Services Department. The Environmental Services Manager ensures hospital standards of sanitation; cleanliness and aesthetic appearance is adhered to according to hospital and departmental policy & procedures in conjunction with external regulatory agency guidelines. The Environmental Services Manager will work with hospital stakeholders, communicate with families and patients to ensure services are rendered and a high level of satisfaction is met and sustained.

What you will do

  • Responsible for ensuring that department and/or hospital quality cleaning standards are met.
  • Handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Assign and prioritize daily staff according to operational needs.
  • Collect adenosine triphosphate (ATP) from a contaminated surface in the environment using the 3M Clean-Trace ATP surface swabs and test device. Performs, measures, trend and analyzes results. Create action plans to remediate ATP failures and follows up to ensure ATP passing level compliance. Note that ATP product/device may change however performance and outcomes will not.
  • Ensure department initiatives related to environmental cleanliness and dust removal are scheduled, performed, and completed per department/hospital compliance and policies. Collaborate with clinical teams, patient and family services, social work, and other stakeholders to communicate, plan, schedule and perform the work.
  • Coordinate cleaning, disinfecting, floorcare and all projects related to cleaning, disinfecting, floor/carpet scrubbing, burnishing stripping and wax/finish recoating.
  • Plans, prepares, and operationally ensures the highest quality of patient satisfaction by monitoring cleanliness of admission ready rooms.
  • Acts as an Ambassador to newly admitted patients for Environmental Services and proactively follows up on any associated issue.
  • Responsible for ensuring staff have the required supplies and equipment to fully perform all tasks and duties within the approved guidelines/policies and procedures.
  • Meets and greets families daily to communicate ESD cleaning processes and correct/follow-up on requests, questions and complaints.
  • Proactively tracks/trends all barriers/performance/conduct related barriers/issues which would affect patient flow process and service quality outcomes.
  • Ensure all ESD equipment is managed, maintained, clean and is in good working condition. Ensure proper use and storage of equipment. Manage use and investigate/rectify abuse of equipment.
  • Ensures that chemicals are being utilized properly and that all safety procedures are adhered too.
  • Actively participate in external professional meetings/activities/career development and seminars, etc. to ensure industry knowledge for best practices and procedures.
  • Proactively tracks/trends patient satisfaction scores and comments.
  • Ensure all hospital sleep surfaces are cleaned and transported in a timely manner. (Refer to department policies)
  • Performs investigations pertaining to performance, conduct and behaviors due to violation of department and hospital policies and job aids. Creates and issues disciplinary actions and monitors previous performance, conduct and behavioral issues to ensure policies and job aids are no longer being violated.
  • Maintains knowledge of 1199C Collective Bargaining Agreement to ensure correct interpretation and application.
  • Plan staffing allocation to maximize available labor and budget resources.
  • Responsible for employee compliance of Hospital and Departmental Policy & Procedures.
  • Responsible for all employee evaluations annual and end of probationary are completed on a time appropriate basis, according to policy and established protocols.
  • Maintains knowledge Hospital and Department policies and procedures ensuring they are followed by the incumbent and employees.
  • Responsible for ongoing coaching/training and development of staff.
  • Performs, measures, trend and analyzes quality assurance (QA) inspections/results utilizing visual/physical inspections and department QA software programs on a daily basis. Create action plans to remediate QA deficiencies and follows up to ensure a clean and disinfected environment.
  • Maintain knowledge of 1199C Collective Bargaining Agreement to ensure correct interpretation and application.
  • Leads and manages employee's schedule, performance and conduct through competency assessments, recognition programs and
  • Responsible for employees daily up to annual performance management, assignments, tasks, schedules and all other employee management fundamentals pertaining to leading, organizing, controlling and planning
  • Ensure the collection, transportation and disposal/storage of all regulated/non-regulated trash/waste and sharps containers.
  • And all other duties as assigned.

Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED - Required
  • Associate's Degree - Preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree Bachelors Degree in Management/Administration/Hospitality or Related Field -Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • At least one (1) year Experience in Healthcare, Hotel, Long Term Care or Hospitality Related Industry - Required and
  • At least one (1) year Experience in Customer Service or Customer Interaction Related Industry - Required
  • At least one (1) year Experience in Leadership/Supervisory/Managerial Role - Preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to develop ongoing training for new and existing staff (Preferred proficiency)
  • Ability to influence, direct and guide others so as to gain their loyal cooperation in the accomplishments of an objective (Preferred proficiency)
  • Ability to remain calm and poised with a high degree of emotional security, even under provocations (Required proficiency)

  • Ability to use and is proficient with using Microsoft office, excel and powerpoint (Required proficiency)
