Job Description

MU Marketing and Communications is a critical partner in helping the institution meet its mission and strategic goals. Mizzou Marketing is committed to working in an intentional, data-informed, forward-looking, and collaborative manner to implement a comprehensive enrollment strategy.

Mizzou Marketing works collaboratively with academic leadership and the university's marketing professionals to create a marketing strategy that is consistent with the university's overall brand and that supports the institution's Strategic Enrollment Plan.

The copywriter will report to the Associate Director of Creative Strategy. This position will research, develop and write compelling, conversion-driving content for websites, landing pages and multi-channel, digital-first marketing campaigns. Utilizing industry best practices, fine attention to detail and exceptional communications skills, the copywriter will collaborate as part of the central marketing team to produce a diverse range of materials designed to lift enrollment, sentiment and brand awareness efforts for a variety of audiences and programs.

Position Responsibilities:
Craft engaging copy: develop institutional marketing messages for publication across a variety of channels, including web, social media, video and print

Support the Mizzou brand: apply Mizzou's brand voice across a variety of audiences and ensure consistency in tone and style

Explore and understand: study the core demographics of our key target audiences to identify the mediums and messages that are most effective in communicating with them

Create digital content: write and optimize creative, conversion-driven and SEO-friendly content across digital platforms for specific DMAs and target audiences

Collaborate and innovate: brainstorm with a cross-functional creative team to develop concepts that tell the Mizzou story and convey strategic messages

Ensure accuracy: fact-check and copy edit department materials, including marketing copy, website content, PowerPoints, reports and memos

Analyze and evaluate: review creative performance to identify opportunities for continued improvement of marketing efforts

Stay curious: research industry leaders and competitor messaging to identify successful trends and techniques to improve Mizzou Marketing campaigns and websites

This is an in-person/on-campus position. Reimbursement of relocation expenses is available.

M-F; 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

At least 3 years' experience in digital marketing and advertising content strategy development, social media content development, corporate communications, higher education, or similar with an emphasis on conversion copywriting.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $55,000-$60,000/year

Grade: GGS-10
