Senior Staff, Software Test Engineer

Location: Sunnyvale, CA

Software Engineer is a highly technical role within Juniper Networks Software Engineering group, which is responsible to design, develop, build, qualify and deliver software and networking products. The highly skilled engineers are responsible for delivering production grade quality products by validating and qualifying the software and products through automated, agile, and adaptive test engineering. The engineer should be well versed with networking technologies, virtualization technologies, test frameworks and test automation.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:



  • Understand customer deployments and use cases to develop comprehensive test strategies that address both solution coverage and scalability.
  • Develop state-of-the-art automation scripts based on test plan requirements and integrate them across all applicable platforms.
  • Collaborate with Field Engineers, Sales Engineers, and Customers to analyze deployment architectures, network topologies, and testing requirements.
  • Extract and interpret customer use cases from deployment details and requirement documents to drive solution-oriented testing.
  • Participate in design and technical workshops with customers to assess existing network architectures and gather technical requirements for new designs.
  • Produce detailed reports on project deliverables, including test progress, discovered defects, and technical analysis.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and document software defects, and collaborate with internal engineering teams to ensure timely resolution and customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct technical meetings with customers to provide status updates, discuss technical challenges, and present solutions and workarounds.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, account teams, and internal stakeholders regarding testing activities, timelines, and results.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across multiple geographical locations to ensure alignment and successful project execution.
  • Provide support and maintenance for delivered solutions, including addressing escalations from customers.
  • Contribute to the technical community by authoring white papers, patent submissions, and IETF proposals related to relevant technologies.


Basic Qualifications



  • Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics / Compute, or higher degree is desired.
  • Minimum of 12 years' experience in a relevant field is required.
  • Proficient in test automation frameworks and scripting languages, including Python, Perl, Robot Framework, and Go.
  • Proficient in device-level configuration of routers and switches across multi-vendor environments.
  • Hands-on debugging experience in service provider deployments, maintenance scenarios, and real-world use case testing.
  • Skilled in writing test plans and developing automation scripts aligned with test requirements.
  • Conducted Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to identify coverage gaps and improve test effectiveness.
  • Proficient in test automation frameworks and scripting languages, including Python, Perl, Robot Framework, and Go.
  • Familiar with traffic generation tools such as Ixia and Spirent for performance and scale testing.
  • Strong communicator, with the ability to clearly articulate test results, explain software defects, and provide actionable insights.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Collaborative team player with strong relationship-building and cross-functional coordination skills.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Prior hands-on experience with JUNOS
  • Possession of networking certifications (e.g., JNCIA, CCNA)

Minimum Salary: $194,400.00

Maximum Salary:$279,450.00

The pay range for this position is expected to be between $194,400.00 and $279,450.00/year; however, the base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position also includes medical benefits, 401(k) eligibility, vacation, sick time, and parental leave. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Juniper's pay range data is provided in accordance with local state pay transparency regulations. Juniper may post different minimum wage ranges for permanent residency petitions pursuant to US Department of Labor requirements.
