Position Purpose |
As a full, public-facing representative of Dartmouth College and admissions officer, the Senior Assistant Director of Admissions performs a wide range of admissions duties, including management of a designated recruitment territory, acting as the Dartmouth liaison to guidance counselors and prospective applicants from the territory, traveling to high schools to attract qualified students, reviewing and assessing applications, conducting group information sessions, and supporting the administrative portfolio of a senior admission officer in one of our administrative areas, as assigned: access, campus programming, communications, recruitment and analytics. |

- Four years of professional experience as an admissions officer in selective college admissions or a related field.
- Bachelor's degree in a liberal arts discipline or the equivalent.
- Ability to conduct qualitative and quantitative research and the ability to interpret, summarize, and present outcomes.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with varied and diverse constituencies including admission office colleagues, students, parents, coaches, alumni, faculty, secondary school personnel, and related community agencies.
- Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills as well as confidence and clarity in public speaking.
- Facility with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and related database and word processing applications.
- Exceptional planning, time management and organization skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Analytical thinking and decision-making skills.
- Strong sense of judgment and discretion at all times.
- Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse community.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Dartmouth driver certification.
- Significant out of town travel as well as evening and weekend commitments are required.

Description |
Admissions Officer: Develops the marketing strategy to promote Dartmouth and increase its visibility in the designated region; completes 4-6 weeks of recruitment travel each year. Independently interprets Dartmouth admission policies, as set by the vice provost/dean, in a most-subjective holistic evaluation process. Assesses and documents academic and personal credentials of applicants in a detailed reading process. Reads and evaluates approximately 1,200 applications for undergraduate admission per year; serves as a full-voting member of the selection committee. Conducts on-campus information sessions to prospective applicants/parents/guidance counselors. Acts as an optimistic and competent agent for change in a high-volume, high-stress environment; initiates new strategies for administrative success and efficiency; develops relationships on campus and in the community to accomplish these goals. |

Communication: Conducts group information sessions for applicants and parents on campus and on the road. Communicates regularly with administrators, coaches, students, parents, guidance counselors, faculty and alumni regarding policies and decisions. Develops informative, in-person and internet-based relationships with prospective students. Provides professional guidance to applicants, parents and guidance counselors about preparing for the admissions process in general and the admissions requirements for Dartmouth in particular. |
