The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Tech A in the Division of Surgical Science, Columbia University Irving Medical Center will be responsible for carrying out research under the supervisor's direction in a research lab that focuses on Alzheimer's and other age-related diseases.

Responsibilities



  • Prepare materials, solutions, and assist with experiments.
  • Mouse husbandry and handling including but not limited to ear tag, tail sniping PCR genotype.
  • Perform lab experiments using established written protocols.
  • Basic molecular biology experiments (eg., cloning, RNA/DNA extraction, PCR, Western blotting).
  • Record data, perform analysis and calculations, and write reports on research findings.
  • Prepare mouse brain slices and record electrophysiology on brain slices and tissue dissection to obtain tissue to store in -80c freezer.
  • Administrative (order supplies and maintain inventory).
  • Maintain a lab notebook and accurately record related to tasks.
  • Other duties as necessary to support the functioning of the laboratory and research projects.


Minimum Qualifications




  • Two years of college or a completed A.A. program with an emphasis in chemistry, biology or physics or a completed animal husbandry program.



  • One year of related experience, or equivalent in education, training and/or experience.




Preferred Qualifications




  • Ability to perform work in accordance with safety regulations and standard laboratory protocols.



  • Intermediate to advanced level MS Office skills.



  • Ability to keep records in an orderly fashion.



  • Bachelor's degree.
