Job Summary

Neurodiagnostic Services Supervisor 2 - Sleep & EMG

The Neurodiagnostic Services Supervisor 2 is responsible for leading the delivery of specialized Sleep and EMG diagnostic services within a clinical setting. This role directly supervises professional and technical staff, supports unit leadership, and ensures compliance with clinical, operational, and administrative policies.

The Supervisor brings advanced technical expertise in Sleep Medicine, including diagnostic procedures and therapies for sleep disorders. They play a critical role in daily operations-assigning caseloads, managing work locations, overseeing equipment usage and acquisition, and ensuring service quality and regulatory compliance. They also lead performance evaluations, recruitment efforts, and staff development.

This position collaborates closely with the Neurodiagnostic Services Director, Medical Director, and other clinical supervisors to promote safe, efficient, and patient-centered care. The Supervisor also shares responsibility for 24/7 operational oversight, including technical operations, staffing, compliance, and equipment maintenance.

A proactive problem solver, the Supervisor identifies and addresses clinical and departmental challenges that may impact patient care or access. They implement practical solutions to improve efficiency, service delivery, and patient outcomes.

Key responsibilities include supervising Sleep and EMG testing staff, ensuring appropriate patient monitoring before, during, and after procedures, enforcing departmental policies, and monitoring team productivity. The Supervisor ensures effective communication with multidisciplinary teams, patients, and families and actively contributes to continuous improvement initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload a license and/or certification if required for the position

  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT)
  • 5 years of experience as a Registered Polysomnography Technologist
  • Ability to integrate the understanding of the Health System's mission, commitments, and projects within a service-oriented health care environment
  • Ability to incorporate knowledge of Joint Commission and Title 22 rules and regulations to assure that clinic programs and operations are in compliance
  • Manage conflict and help staff to learn conflict resolution
  • Work independently and exercise independent and sound decisions and judgment
  • Knowledge of Sleep & EMG operations and workflows
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Polysomnography testing, equipment, and clinical care, and the ability to learn the same for EMG
  • Comprehensive knowledge and able to use appropriate testing tools and equipment with the ability to troubleshoot and identify testing errors, malfunctions, or service needs
  • Able to coordinate appropriate resources as needed
  • Analytical skills to effectively understand large amounts of complex medical, administrative, and fiscal information, and the ability to absorb such information to make timely and thoughtful decisions
  • Planning skills to analyze program goals and objectives given the current and potential health care trends, to make accurate short- and long-term projections to establish program needs and resource requirements; and to secure potential sources of funds and revenues to meet those requirements
  • Excellent organizational skills to determine workload priorities to enable the timely completion of tasks
  • Ability to work effectively and independently under pressure with a minimum of direction
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to express ideas assertively, clearly, and concisely both orally and in writing
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with others to secure necessary information and cooperation from a variety of people

  • Abide by all regulatory and policy requirements such as the Joint Commission, Code of Ethics, Medicare, State, and other regulatory bodies
  • Must be able to effectively guide staff and triage case work within a multidisciplinary care setting
  • Ability to demonstrate, teach, and interact with patients, children, physicians, and families

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Master's Degree in relevant studies (Business or Healthcare)
  • Experience as a Lead or Principal Polysomnography Technologist
  • Previous Supervisory Experience

Department Overview

The Neurodiagnostic Labs operate under the Clinical Neurodiagnostic Services Department at UC Davis Health, managed by the Neurodiagnostic Services Director. The work location for this position is the Midtown ACC Building. The department handles outpatient Sleep & EMG Diagnostic services as well as limited inpatient Sleep & EMG Diagnostic Services. The departments share space with EEG & TCD Diagnostic Services.
