Staff Research Associate

Laboratory Medicine

Full Time

85097BR

Job Summary

The Whitman Lab in the Department of Laboratory Medicine is recruiting for a full-time or part-time Staff Research Associate (SRA) to work on clinical and basic science infectious diseases research projects. Our lab is based out of UCSF Pride Hall on the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital Campus and works closely with the hospital's Clinical Laboratory. We are primarily a parasitology lab with a focus on Chagas disease caused by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi. In a broader sense, we are interested in chronic host-pathogen interactions and developing diagnostics to identify and characterize these infections.

The SRA will work closely with the PI and other lab members to explore serological responses to T. cruzi and host metabolic factors supporting chronic infection. SRA responsibilities may include maintaining parasites in a mammalian tissue culture model; preparing specimens or performing for "omics" research, including metabolomics, proteomics, and genomics; performing tandem or high-resolution mass spectrometry; and flow cytometry cell sorting; handling clinical research specimens and evaluating test performance of laboratory diagnostics.

Responsibilities of the SRA will include but are not limited to: conducting experiments, performing data analysis and interpretation, presenting findings to laboratory members and collaborators, participating in the design and execution of new research projects, and assisting with the training and supervision of visiting researchers or student. SRAs will be expected to assist with managing day-to-day laboratory operations, including ordering, maintenance, and inspection.

We are seeking an exceptional and enthusiastic candidate with appropriate academic background (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) and at 1+ years research experience to lead their own independent project(s) and assume roles in collaborative projects across the spectrum of translational research.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a cutting-edge research lab focused on infectious diseases diagnostics. The Whitman Lab offers a stimulating and supportive work environment, as well as ample opportunities for professional development and career advancement.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $30.89 - $49.68 (Hourly Rate).
