The PositionRoche Diagnostics acquired Stratos Genomics (https://www.stratosgenomics.com/) in 2020 for its unique chemistry, Sequencing by Expansion (SBX), that supports high signal-to-noise nanopore sequencing1. The Protein Engineering group at Roche Diagnostics Seattle is focused on innovative approaches to improve the performance of proteins in SBX, especially the Xpandomer synthase, a highly evolved DNA polymerase that makes SBX possible. We are looking for people who are excited about the significance of our technology, and who want to make SBX successful. The Opportunity: * Support the effort to produce and improve proteins involved in SBX * Contribute to the definition and timely achievement of project goals. * Proactively identify and troubleshoot problems * Perform data analysis and protocol development. * Maintain accurate, detailed and reliable laboratory records. * Communicate effectively with manager on project status, data analysis findings, and process deviations * Assist in maintaining laboratory cleanliness and organization. * Support management decisions and goals in a positive, professional manner. **Please include a cover letter outlining why you want to work with us, your specific interest in our technology, and how you would contribute. Who You Are: * B.S. degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Protein Science, Structural Biology, Genome Sciences or similar degree program * A minimum of 3 years of laboratory experience in the biotech industry or a research laboratory * You are comfortable with basic laboratory techniques (e.g., pipetting, sterile technique, solution preparation, etc.) * You have experience with preparing reagent solutions (ie. buffers, chemical stock solutions) * You have experience with standard molecular biology techniques (PCR, ligation, etc) Preferred Qualifications * You have experience with E. coli protein expression strains and protein purification * You have experience with protein mutagenesis, library methods, and variant screening * You have experience with protein structural analysis and prediction (PyMol, AI methods, Rosetta) * You have experience with online protein databases and how to extract useful information (BLAST, UniProt, RCSB, etc) * You have familiarity with next-generation DNA sequencing applications The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Washington State is $64,100-119,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
