Mechanics Bank is currently searching for a Director of Total Rewards to join our team. Here at Mechanics Bank, we value connection, partnership, long term relationships and working together in person. This role will be working on-site at our Irvine, Walnut Creek or Roseville offices.

The Director of Total Rewards is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and management of employee compensation, incentive plans and benefits programs in the organization. Develops and implements total rewards strategies to attract, retain, and motivate employees. Manages compensation structures, incentive programs, health and wellness benefits, retirement plans, and other rewards initiatives. Analyzes market trends and benchmarks to ensure competitive and equitable compensation and benefits packages. This role will partner with key stakeholders to align compensation initiatives with business objectives, company culture and build/enhance our compensation strategy, philosophy and job architecture to ensure alignment and competitiveness within the market. Works closely with members of the Executive and management teams. Provides guidance and support to senior leadership on total rewards strategies and initiatives. Will provide oversight, leadership, training and guidance to team members and coordinate work assignments as needed.

What you will be doing:

  • In collaboration with the CHRO will plan, develop, and execute employee compensation programs; Recommends compensation policies and related procedures that have a bank-wide impact. Oversee and manage all aspects of compensation including, but not limited to - incentive plans, bonus plans, phantom stock, LTIP, deferred and executive compensation. Manages local Compensation Review processes in coordination with the annual bank compensation process.

  • Manages a team of compensation and benefits professionals. Provides training and guidance to team members, as needed, in all areas of compensation and benefits to include, but not limited to, job evaluation, pay analysis, incentive plans, non-qualified deferred compensation, market data, and annual benefits open enrollment processes. Partners closely with the recruiting organization to ensure sound, compelling and attractive offers are extended to secure the vital talent to scale us to our projected growth.

  • Reviews and manages recommendations for salary range adjustments and individual market or equity adjustments. Oversees the bank wide salary structure by reviewing job descriptions for new or revised jobs, evaluating job content, determining salary grades, FLSA exemptions, job revisions and organizational structures in HRIS. Works closely with HRIS to manage to annual merit review process.

  • Performs trend analysis and best practice research to develop analytics that support and influence compensation decisions. Reviews existing and proposed statutory requirements governing compensation administration and recommends appropriate courses of action. Ensures sound business decisions are being made to keep Bank in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

  • Manages local adherence to compensation processes and timelines. Develops and executes project plan for the annual compensation review cycle, which involves designing and coordinating the project team. Collaborates and company-wide communications for annual compensation and benefits projects.

Who you are:

  • 4 year Bachelor's degree highly preferred in Human Resources, Business Administration or similar fields. Additional experience will be considered in lieu of degree.

  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation strongly preferred

  • Required 10 years of relevant human resources / compensation experience; preferably in banking/finance industry

  • Preferred 5 years in Leadership / Management

  • Proven presentation skills to senior leadership

  • Must be service oriented and possess excellent interpersonal skills

  • Effective time management and project management skills

  • Excellent collaboration and partnership skills

  • Ability to use tact, discretion and good judgment

  • Familiarity with Workday highly preferred

  • Proven leadership skills

  • Banking/Financial Industry experience a plus

  • Proven ability to present to and interact with senior level executives

  • Must possess excellent human relations skills and time/project management skills in order to establish and maintain effective working relationships and project teams.

Salary: $160,000-250,000 annually

Final compensation package will be determined by the work experience, education, and/or skill level of the applicant along with internal equity and alignment with geographic market data.
