Bill of Materials Specialist 1st Shift

Position Summary:

Bill of Material (BOM) specialist is responsible for creation and maintenance of manufacturing bill of material and related data / transactions necessary to support production, engineering and purchasing within the ERP system. Senior Bill of Material Specialist is responsible for supporting new item creation and ensuring the Bill of Material is accurate. This includes creating, processing, maintaining, and updating the ERP (OPSYS) based Bill of Material, communicating between multiple departments regarding BOMs and identifying / resolving issues related to BOM. Primary transactions include, but are not limited to assigning serial numbers, ECO numbers to new orders, inventory transactions, closing out orders, creating backorders, developing, and maintaining Configured product Structures.

Essential/Key Functions:

  • Create and maintain multiple level bill of materials.
  • Interpret and incorporate engineering change notices, taking necessary actions to preclude potential safety issues on shipped orders.
  • Maintain accuracy of BOM's with completion of engineering change notices.
  • Work with production, purchasing, and engineering to ensure the BOM has correct structure as well as correct components and quantities in system.
  • Audit BOM information for accuracy and completeness. Interpret errors and take necessary actions to correct, so as not to adversely impact quality, safety, cost, delivery.
  • Accurately process submitted BOM's and ECO's.
  • Maintain record keeping systems for all processed work.
  • Work closely with engineering on issues concerning BOM,s or ECO's.
  • Manage daily work tasks of India shared services team. Create standard work and provide training. Prioritize workload. Monitor performance and provide corrective actions for identified issues.
  • Work closely with shared services on any processing problems.
  • Support our outlying branches for their BOM's.
  • Create and maintain gate kits, and commercial assemblies.
  • Update work order status in a timely manner.
  • Create Documentation BOM's for orders.
  • Accurately transact inventory on work orders at machine closeout.
  • New Order ERP Setup.
  • Work Order creation for Engineering and Manufacturing Projects.
  • Develop and maintain configured product structure.
  • Effectively conform with all established safety policies and communicate any problems.
  • Work environmentally aware, recycling all waste products properly.

Competencies:

  • Strong PC skills
  • Excellent data entry skills, focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems, preferably JD Edwards
  • Knowledge of PLM systems, preferably PTC Windchill
  • Experience reading Engineering drawings
  • Process oriented.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Customer service orientation
  • Team player, able to communicate and fill in for other roles in the area.

Minimum (Required) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and/or HS Diploma with equivalent job experience/knowledge.
  • Three to Five years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
