We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Sr
Desktop Engineer
on our Information Technology team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring 3 days a week in the office.

Responsible for the
design, architecture and oversight of the desktop operating system and
maintaining workstation hardware as well as desktop standards across all
corporate client machines. Provide
technical and strategic leadership for the planning, design, and transition of
the end device environment directing patch management and upgrades to ensure
security compliance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Workstation, & Application Platform- Design, Creation & Maintenance

  • Provide leadership in the planning, design and review and plan the direction of emerging/innovative technologies for end user computing.
  • Responsible for the design, creation and maintenance of workstations and servers as well as the personal productivity application platform.
  • Establishes and maintains standards for desktop architecture and creates and manages the automation of desktop software distribution.
  • Supports the early life cycle and application deployment process and ensures compliance with IT Security standards.
  • Ability to understand and configure CIS standards defined by the organization.

Technical Standards Development and Improvement

  • Contribute to the development of strategic plans by anticipating changes in technical architecture and sunset plans of our technical stack.
  • Develops technical standards, identifies and evaluates workstation technologies, and recommends new products.
  • Creates workstation roadmap and strategies, ensuring alignment with IT Security roadmap.

Application Deployment Support

  • Provide 3rd level client support in the deployment of applications.
  • Manage workstations using enterprise management tools interacting with key personnel at each phase of the desktop environment to ensure it meets the needs of IT Security, Applications, Network teams as well as key business stakeholders.

Operational Documentation and Resources

  • Create and maintain technical and operational management documentation and provide guidance and leadership to other team members.

May include other responsibilities as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. A minimum of 5+ years' experience with laptops, desktops, hardware, and software required.
  2. A minimum of 5+ years' experience with SCCM/Configuration Manager, Intune and other Microsoft Systems (Office, DirectAccess, Bitlocker, Windows Updates for Business)
  3. A minimum of 3+ years' experience with VMWare Virtualization technologies
  4. Experience with Mobile Device Management (MDM/MAM) - Experience with EMS, Intune, O365 are a plus.
  5. Experience designing and architectural experience implementing SCCM/Configuration Manager and Intune (and/or other desktop management suites)
  6. Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the desktop and laptop management area as well as the supported platforms of choice.
  7. Must be able to mentor and share knowledge and best practices with other team members.
  8. Must be detail oriented and be able to deliver high quality work without supervision.
  9. Must be able to determine methods and procedures on new assignments and to provide guidance to other personnel.
  10. Must have an ability to define, work with and meet deadlines.
  11. Ability to effectively prioritize multiple groups and individual tasks.
  12. Must be comfortable working on multiple projects.
  13. Bachelor's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Computer Management Information Systems preferred or equivalent experience.

Additional Technical Skills

  1. Ability to analyze and evaluate the existing SCCM/Configuration Manager and Intune environments and remediate any issues and or provide a new design model
  2. Thorough ability to enhance desktop security and configuration management through Group Policy Objects (GPO) and Intune policies, in-depth experience with Active Directory and GPO's as well as the ability to create custom policies.
  3. Windows 10 to Windows 11 migration experience as well Office 365 management in a company of over 1,000 users preferred.
  4. Strong understanding of network connectivity, security and accessibility required.
  5. Linux understanding is a plus.
  6. Mac desktop experience is a plus.

This role is an exempt position, and the salary range for this position is $97,461-$129,056. This is the lowest to highest salary we believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee's pay within the salary range will be determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to business consideration, geographical location, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
