Position Overview:

The primary focus of this role is to serve as a Sr. Traffic Engineer to lead and manage complex traffic engineering projects and support transportation planning initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise, leadership, and a collaborative spirit to help shape the future of our transportation infrastructure.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage traffic engineering studies including traffic signal warrant studies, signal timing, traffic impact analyses, corridor studies, and safety assessments.
  • Analyze traffic data using software tools (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM, HCS, AutoCAD, MicroStation).
  • Develop congestion mitigation strategies and plans.
  • Design and review traffic control devices such as signals, signs, pavement markings, and roundabouts.
  • Collaborate with planners, civil engineers, and public agencies on transportation projects.
  • Assist with plan reviews and traffic impact study reviews
  • Prepare and present technical reports, memos, and presentations to stakeholders and the public.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including MUTCD and AASHTO standards.
  • Participate in public meetings and respond to community concerns regarding traffic and safety.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Master's preferred).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in traffic or transportation engineering.
  • Proficiency in traffic analysis and design software.
  • Strong knowledge of traffic engineering principles.
  • Excellent communication, project management, and leadership skills.
  • Experience with ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) and emerging mobility technologies.
  • Knowledge of Complete Streets and Vision Zero principles.
  • Experience working on traffic engineering projects for the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT - SHA) is a plus.
