Responsible for routine preparation and analysis of biological samples for quantitative analysis using sophisticated instrumentation including gas and liquid mass spectrometers and tandem mass spectrometers. Provide training and oversight to students and colleagues with respect to sample handling, preparation and data analysis. Perform routine assessment of instrument performance and simple preventative maintenance of advanced instrumentation under the guidance of the principal investigator. Responsible for the enhancement of data management and quality assurance spreadsheets through the implementation of simple applications. Aid in the general maintenance of the laboratory by following appropriate safety protocols, logging incoming samples into the laboratory records, and supporting the maintenance of a clean working environment, prioritization of efforts will be made by the supervisor. Experience with solid phase and liquid/liquid extraction techniques. Skills preparing samples for organic analysis using internal standard methodology and strict quality assurance guidelines. Skills using analytical software for qualitative review of metabolomic data. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Preferred Qualifications Experience with electrospray ionization mass spectrometry for quantitative analysis. Experience using Gas or Liquid chromatography with mass spectral detection for quantitative analysis. Skills in the operation and maintenance of chromatographs and mass spectrometers.
