Role
Under direct supervision, through on-the-job training, classroom instruction and certifications, services, maintains, inspects, and repairs vehicles, machinery, and/or equipment to assure the safety and ongoing operation of all vehicles and equipment in the company. Upon successful completion of the four-year mechanic apprentice program, the apprentice will be classified as a certified, journeyman mechanic.
Essential Responsibilities
Actively participates in training sessions, both formal and on-the-job, to develop skills and knowledge in repair and maintenance of equipment and machinery.
Assists experienced mechanics with their tasks, such as repairing and maintaining trucks and machinery.
Perform simple repairs and routine maintenance tasks under supervision, such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake inspections.
Properly using, maintaining, and organizing tools and equipment.
Assisting in diagnosing issues with trucks and equipment by following instructions and using diagnostic tools.
Adhering to all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
Successful completion of a maximum four-year apprentice training program.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:
Basic interest in learning about mechanical tools, equipment, and systems.
Willingness to learn how to troubleshoot and solve basic mechanical issues with guidance.
Ability to follow simple instructions and work with basic tools.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Comfortable working in a hands-on environment and eager to develop new skills.
Principles and practices of job site safety, potential job hazards, and state and local regulations.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to pass pre-employment mechanical aptitude and math skills assessment.
High school degree or GED preferred.
Valid driver's license.
