Position Description:

HDR is looking for a Biosolids and Residuals Technology Lead to work with and support the Biosolids and Residuals Management Business Class Director (BC Director) and Regional Biosolids Practice Leads in all areas of a biosolids project life-cycle from preliminary planning through start-up and commissioning. This position focuses on investigating new biosolids stabilization, volume minimization and thermal processing technologies and approaches to help clients better manage their biosolids, enhance resource recovery, and reduce O&M costs. Additionally, the Biosolids Technology Lead will be responsible for developing new and maintaining existing strategic partnerships and enhancing the application of new and existing technologies throughout HDR's Biosolids and Residuals Practice. The Biosolids Technology Lead has the ability to leverage the HDR business class expertise as client solutions within the appropriate consulting context. The ideal candidate will possess and maintain an unrivaled understanding of industry trends and drivers and have subject matter expertise on a variety of project and processing approaches including collaborative delivery, P3 opportunities and structures, biosolids end-use alternatives, resource recovery, greenhouse gas evaluations, mass and energy balances, and biosolids processing alternatives. The Biosolids Technology Leader supports project delivery, tool or application development, and business development as well as providing PARR and QC support. This individual will be responsible for sustaining and advancing HDR's efforts as a leader in providing biosolids management solutions and innovation on behalf of our clients and profession.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Work with the BC Director, the Professional Services Director and Wastewater Market Sector Director to provide technical leadership across the WBG to maximize the delivery of professional service on all biosolids projects.
  • Collaborate with the other business classes and cross-sectors to advance technology development and implementation.
  • Assist in the development of in-house resources and cultivate external talent required to serve regions and areas.
  • Support HDR's efforts to maximize engagement in biosolids oriented professional organizations including conference participation and publications.
  • Serve on and provide leadership to professional committees affiliated with the biosolids management industry including WEF, WRF and NACWA.
  • Foster practice group collaboration and standardization through active practice groups.
  • Lead dedicated teams to develop industry leading tools, data management solutions, data visualizations and programs designed to solve industry problems with our clients and enhance business development.
  • Serve as client manager, project manager, and technical advisor for selected clients and projects. Remain involved with and continue to work on strategic projects.


Preferred Qualifications



  • 15 years professional experience in biosolids management.
  • Meet or exceed the qualitative criteria of HDR's Senior Professional Associate. Experienced in development and management of diverse teams.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
  • 10 years of experience
  • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
  • Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience
  • Experienced in development and management of diverse teams
  • Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

The expected compensation range for this position is $149,352 - $223,520 depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.)
