Your Opportunity as the Associate, Government & Industry Relations Play a pivotal role in executing our strategy through strong collaboration and research, along with supporting lobbying and advocacy activities. In this role you will support the development and execution of The J.M. Smucker Company's Government Relations strategy and activities in its Washington, D.C. location. You will report to the Director of Government & Industry Relations. Location: Washington, DC Office Work Arrangements: Hybrid, Onsite approximately 6-9 days per month, during core weeks as determined by the Company; maybe more as business need requires In this role you will:
- Provides general administrative, scheduling, logistical and special project support to Government & Industry Relations team
- Creates an annual Smucker Political Action Committee (PAC) report
- Creates department materials including a quarterly Government & Industry Relations newsletter for PAC Board Members
- Organizes policy-focus DC fly-ins for Smucker executives
- Manages plant tours, special event planning and logistics involving elected officials
- Develops and communicates quarterly government relations updates for Government Relations Team communication to internal stakeholders
- Manage department's annual calendar of external and internal events
- Completes PAC disclosure reports and state lobbying reports
- Supports the PAC strategy
- Other tasks as required

- Bachelor's degree
- Two+ years required of relevant public policy or political experience working in local, state or federal legislative or administrative branches, campaigns, coalitions, trade associations or corporate government relations
- Ability to anticipate impacts to the business with matters being debated in federal and state policy arenas with an understanding of the legislative process
- Ability to reach out to a wide array of functional groups across the organization to gather information needed
- Experience creating factual, relevant, and easily understandable talking points, policy briefs and other messaging
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to communicate with top level management and external stakeholders
- Proven networking and relationship building skills
- Strong strategic management, project management, and planning skills
- Desire to affect change within an organization
- Must be willing to travel with overnight travel expectations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Additional skills and experience that we think would make someone successful in this role:
- Staff experience in legislative and/or executive branches of government
- Corporate Government Relations
- Experience in the Consumer Packaged Goods Industry (Food & Beverage)
- Experience with Political Action Committee compliance/management
- Lobbying Disclosure Act (LDA) /LD-2 Reporting
