Overview

Under the general supervision of the Section Manager, provides the necessary support for O&R's distribution automation operational technology (OT) systems. This position provides subject matter expert experience with real-time data and applications with O&R's DSCADA, ADMS, modeling, and supporting systems. The ADMS and DSCADA are critical to meeting the objectives of the New York Public Service Commission ("PSC") Reforming the Energy Vision ("REV") initiative for Distributed System Platform ("DSP") enablement, as documented in the Company Distributed System Implementation Plan ("DSIP"). Distribution automation with centralized model-based control is a cornerstone to O&R's support of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act's ("CLCPA") goals and principles. The senior engineer is responsible for developing strategy to the introduction and deployment of required distribution automation devices into O&R's the Distribution System. The position will ensure ongoing compliance with company policies, cyber security, industry, and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with users to prepare requirements and analyses for system enhancements or new developments.
  • Develops functional scope and design documentation for OT system enhancements.
  • Designs enhancements and coordinates projects for real-time platforms.
  • Configures and supports solution deployment, coordinates testing, and troubleshoots issues.
  • Provides recommendations for OT design improvements and follows up with implementation proposals and plans.
  • Partners with the team to prioritize and plan project tasks, ensuring they stay on schedule and within budget.
  • Develops plans and processes for coordinated data sharing based on departmental, system, and user requirements.
  • Conducts market research and technology vetting for the Distributed System Implementation Plan.
  • Supports the companys vision for energy efficiency, electrification, and distributed energy resource market participation.
  • Enables opportunities using statistical modeling and data analytics, and establishes data governance for OT data to advance DSIP initiatives.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Master's Degree Engineering, Computer Science, Cyber Security, or equivalent and 6+ years of experience Working in a utility or electrical engineering environment or
  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering, Computer Science, Cyber Security, or equivalent and 8+ years Working in a utility or electrical engineering environment
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Master's Degree Engineering, Computer Science, Cyber Security, or equivalent and 6+ years of experience Working in a utility or electrical engineering environment
Relevant Work Experience
  • Experience programming or scripting to automate repetitive tasks
  • Experience providing SME-level support for a real-time environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite) and have the ability to effectively interact with customers, support staff, and various levels of management
  • Proven track record of achieving sustainable results in managing projects, systems implementation, and process documentation
  • Demonstrating experience mentoring and training peers and/or direct reports
  • Willing and available to be on call, work off-shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime, as operating and system conditions require
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and have the ability to effectively interact with customers, support staff, and various levels of management.
  • Work well in team situations, be willing and able to lead and participate in cross-functional teams.
  • Strong leadership skills, organized, detail-oriented, and flexible to handle multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Available to travel out-of-town for meetings, training, and conferences, as needed
  • Experience working on a critical 24x7 real-time computing environment
  • Experience and knowledge of electric utility distribution
  • Experience working on a critical 24x7 real-time computing environment preferred
  • Experience in SCADA protocols and modeling large statistical data sets preferred
Licenses and Certifications
  • Driver's License Required
  • Other: P.E. License Preferrederred Preferred
Additional Physical Demands
  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
