Summary Responsible for managing the daily operation, installation and maintenance of all traffic signals, Opticom preemption system, school flashers and Ethernet communication network devices and cable plant throughout the city. Number of Direct and Indirect Reports (include titles): 1-Lead Traffic Signal Technician, 4- Traffic Signal Technicians Salary: Depending on qualifications and experience Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supervise and assign duties to operate and maintain all traffic signals, school flashers and communications systems. Provides coordination and leadership to employees, as well as project management within other departments, contractors and engineering consultants. Supervise preparation and testing of traffic signal control equipment prior to on street installation. Manage schedules and time lines for contractors on traffic signal construction projects. Develop preventative and emergency maintenance schedule for all traffic signals and school flashers. Develop policy and procedure for the Traffic Signal Technicians. Develop and conduct training program for new and current equipment. Develop and monitor safety programs. Review and prepare specifications for traffic signal materials and equipment purchases. Provide guidance and design recommendations to consultants preparing engineering plans for traffic signal installation and modernization projects. Participate in the hiring, discipline and termination of employees. Stay current with developments of new technology. Act as a representative for the City of Garland with other agencies (TXDOT, County, other cities) for various construction projects.

Extensive knowledge of electrical theory Extensive knowledge of MUTCD manual Extensive knowledge of fiber optics, copper and Ethernet communications Skills in Microsoft Office including Excel, Access, Outlook and Word Skilled in departmental and controller software Extensive knowledge of controller software programming and ATC, TS 1 and TS 2 traffic cabinet electronics and diagnostics.
