Summary:

Goldbelt C6, LLC is seeking a Molecular Scientist with excellent skills in performing analytical molecular biology for seafood pathogen research and outbreak investigations. This will be an onsite role in Dauphin Island, Alabama.


Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for sample collections from local waters & surrounding area
  • Perform laboratory analyses to develop, optimize, and/or validate methods for the identification of pathogens in seafood
  • Perform laboratory analyses for the extraction of nucleic acid (RNA/DNA) templates from seafood samples for molecular analyses
  • Perform laboratory analyses for the isolation and identification of microorganisms from seafood samples
  • Perform laboratory analyses for molecular detection and/or characterization of microorganisms from seafood samples, with emphasis on Sanger sequencing, whole genome sequencing, and bioinformatics
  • Ensure appropriate documentation results of all laboratory analyses
  • Execute data analysis and draft project reports

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge and experience to carry out assignments independently
  • Knowledge and experience with the development of sampling collections
  • Knowledge and experience in detection and characterizing viruses in food samples
  • Knowledge and experience in identifying indicator organisms from food samples
  • Knowledge and experience in applications of critical thinking and quantitative skills to conduct quantitative analyses on food and ingredients
  • Knowledge and experience of isolation and identification of microorganisms from seafood
  • Knowledge and experience in researching topics and preparing documentation, summary reports, memoranda, abstracts, or publications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree to Ph.D. in Molecular Science, Biology, or related field
  • Minimum 3 - 8 years of experience performing Molecular techniques, validation of method for concentrations, extractions, etc.
  • Experience with seafood
  • Ability to pass background check
  • Hold a valid driver's license
