Job Description:

Perkins Coie is seeking a qualified and dynamic individual to take on the responsibilities of the Leadership Communications Specialist. In this role you will support the Leadership Communications team in developing and executing internal communications for firm programs, campaigns, and leadership initiatives. This role is responsible for maintaining the firm's internal communications request portal, updating the firmwide Communications Calendar, and intaking, reviewing, formatting, and distributing internal messages.

This role requires a strong ability to analyze communication requests, make recommendations, and refine content for clarity, effectiveness, and impact. The Leadership Communications Specialist must ensure that internal messaging aligns with the firm's priorities, is properly scheduled for maximum engagement, and is formatted and distributed effectively across the firm.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Internal Communications Management & Content Distribution

  • Maintain the firm's internal communications request portal, ensuring timely intake, socialization to communications team members, prioritization, and execution of communication requests.
  • Monitor and respond to all communications intake forms, engaging with requesters to clarify intent, refine messaging, and ensure alignment with firm objectives.
  • Evaluate communication requests, making recommendations to improve clarity, effectiveness, timing, and engagement.
  • Proactively update the firmwide communications calendar, tracking distribution schedules and ensuring alignment with key firm priorities.
  • Assist with formatting and finalizing internal distributions, ensuring proper structure, readability, and adherence to firm communication standards.
  • Lead the distribution of approved leadership communications, utilizing firm technology and tools to ensure seamless execution.
  • Act as a project coordinator for assigned internal communications initiatives, ensuring smooth execution from intake to delivery.
  • Regularly analyze user data, engagement metrics, and feedback, providing recommendations to enhance communication strategies and improve employee engagement.

Leadership Communications & Content Support

  • Draft and edit as requested leadership communications, including executive messaging, emails, newsletters, scripts, talking points, playbooks, FAQs, and presentations.
  • Identify narrative threads, themes, and key messages that support and elevate the firm's culture, strategy, and brand.
  • Support communications team in drafting and editing internal communications and supporting collateral as required.
  • Work closely with communications, marketing, and administration teams to ensure messaging consistency and strategic alignment across channels.
  • Learn and lead the distribution of leadership communications using firm technology/tools.

Engagement & Metrics Analysis

  • Track and report progress on communications initiatives, presenting insights and proposals to communications team.
  • Contribute to overall workflow, continuous improvement efforts and innovations of the broader communications team. This will include helping to shape new systems, editorial and procedural guidelines, reports and plans.
  • Develop metrics reports on intranet engagement and firmwide communications, evaluating effectiveness and recommending improvements based on user data and feedback.
  • Continuously refine and improve communication processes to enhance efficiency, engagement, and effectiveness.

SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Strong ability to draft and refine communications based on provided information, proactively seeking additional context or direction when necessary, and ensuring clarity, consistency, and engagement in all written materials.
  • Ability to identify competing priorities, seek guidance and pivot as needed by working across the communications team to assist in reprioritizing tasks when deadlines shift.
  • Maintain organization and focus in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong command of the AP Style Guide and entire Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Able to build relationships, provide recommendations, and present concepts effectively, both verbally and in written formats.
  • Offer creative solutions that align with business objectives and audience needs.
  • A team player committed to partnership, adaptability, and follow-through.
  • Able to work independently while maintaining strong connections with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Strong eye for design, layout, and formatting, ensuring all content is polished, professional, and visually effective.

SPECIFIC SKILLS PREFERRED

  • Experience in legal or professional services communications.
  • Familiarity with communications planning and corporate communications writing.
  • Understanding of employee engagement, leadership messaging, and cultural storytelling.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint, ServiceNow, and Pardot is a plus.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Qualified candidates must have a BA in communications, marketing, business, public relations, or related field, and at least 2-3 years of corporate communications and editing experience.

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, 401(k) plan, medical, dental, and vision insurance, accrued paid time off plan starting at 20 days annually, personal medical and parental leave, up to 10 paid holidays, and family care benefits. This position may be filled in the following location(s). The listed compensation range reflects the typical pay for this role, though it is rare for new hires to receive an offer at the top of the range. Actual compensation may vary depending on experience, skills, market conditions, and internal equity.

Illinois compensation range: $73,210to $108,770 annually

New York compensation range: $80,490 to $119,590 annually

Washington, D.C., compensation range: $79,020 to $117,420 annually
