Job Description

Leads and guides Perfusionists in the performance of duties. Performs all functions of a Perfusionist.

Job Responsibility

1.Leads and guides Perfusionists in the performance of duties.
Participates in orientation and ongoing training of staff. Provides in-service training for hospital personnel on state-of-the-art equipment including, but not limited to, cell savers and the intra-aortic balloon pump.
Assists in prioritizing and assigning work based on workflow fluctuations.
Supports evaluation and implementation of quality control/ performance improvement related practices. May recommend protocols to increase proficiency of perfusion function.
Provide feedback during Perfusionist hiring and performance evaluation processes.
Performs and analyzes blood studies, as required.
2.Performs all functions of a Perfusionist.
Assembles, primes, re-circulates, and tests the extracorporeal circuit prior to initiation of heart-lung bypass.
Modifies extracorporeal circuit and/or incorporates use of special equipment to accommodate operative procedure to be performed.
Makes adjustments, based on the patient's physiologic parameters, as required to maintain adequate perfusion.
Obtains blood samples during procedures.
Responsible for administration of medications, blood components, and anesthetic agents via the extracorporeal circuit.
Performs advanced blood therapies including PRP, platelet Gel, hemofiltration, and autotransfusion.
Disassembles and cleans perfusion equipment following termination of procedure.
Orders and maintains adequate supplies from various departments.
Monitors and observes operation of the heart-lung machine.
3.Performs related duties as required.

Job Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in Cardiorespiratory Science, required.
Current Clinical Perfusionist (ABCP) Certification in New York State, required.
Current License to practice as a Perfusionist in New York State, required.
Specialized certifications, as needed.
3-5 years perfusion experience, required.
Demonstrated proficiency in performing advanced techniques including the use of ECMO, IABP and Cellsavers.
