This position requires an employee to work between 20-25 hours per week during the school semesters, and 40 hours per week during summer, not to exceed 1,500 hours in a calendar year. Each semester, undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours and graduate students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours.

INTERN GUIDELINES:
Students who have completed at least one year of college and are enrolled as a full-time student may apply. Must be enrolled full-time in a degree seeking program. A student's intern position will end within three months after graduation.

Pay Rate:

$16.00 - $20.00/hour

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., 20-25 hours per week. Job Description:

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Internal Auditing intern, under the direction of Senior Internal Auditor, works to assist in the execution of audit engagements - preparing clear and concise engagement documentation, including drafting observations and recommendations for improvements in selected areas within the Utility. The intern is expected to perform extensive data analytics utilizing auditing software, spreadsheet functionality, and business intelligence software. This internship is a great opportunity to build foundational auditing skills, such as applying professional skepticism, making sound and informed business judgments, and gaining a strong understanding of internal controls.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. This position will be responsible for performing monthly and quarterly continuous monitoring activities. Continuous monitoring involves the near-real-time analysis of large data sets using audit software, spreadsheet analysis, and business intelligence software to identify anomalies, ensure compliance, and proactively assess risks across utility operations. This position will perform continuous monitoring for the following areas:
* Monthly travel card transactions
* Monthly procurement card transactions
* Monthly fueling transactions through on-site and off-site gas stations
* Monthly vehicle movement tracking
* Monthly overtime transactions
* Quarterly billing information

2. Under the direction of the Internal Auditing team:
* Assists as requested in developing audit engagement programs, performing engagement testing, preparing work papers and communicating results, formally and informally, to internal auditing staff and operating management throughout the engagement. Engagement testing may include use of audit software, spreadsheet analysis, and business intelligence software.
* Assists as requested in examining and evaluating adequacy, reliability, and cost effectiveness of leadership's risk management, control and governance systems and assessing whether the related objectives have been achieved. Examples of these examinations may include:
o Performing reviews of large quantities of data, such as the use of company travel cards
o Evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of current operations, such as inventory processes
o Reviewing internal controls and segregation of duties throughout the organization
o Verifying compliance with contracts, laws, regulations, utility policies, and utility procedures
* Assists the outside auditors and outside consultants as requested.

3. Provides assistance to the Internal Auditing team in identifying and evaluating potential risks that could impact the organization and in planning and completing the scheduled engagements.

4. Provides independent and objective analyses and consulting in compliance with The Institute of Internal Auditors' Global Internal Audit Standards.

5. Assists with researching formal accounting practices, industry best practices, and other related topics.

6. Prepares and delivers presentations to various groups as needed.

7. Communicates with all levels of employees throughout the Utility.

8. Maintains Internal Auditing office and library files - both physical and digital - along with other general administrative responsibilities.

9. Performs other related duties as required or assigned by the Internal Auditing team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

Minimum of one year college with an Auditing, Accounting, Finance, Information Technology, or other business-related major from an accredited college or university is required. A completion of six credit hours of accounting related classes is required. Minimum 3.0 GPA is required. Previous office work experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Ability to:
o Manage sensitive information with the highest level of confidentiality.
o Quickly grasp new concepts and work independently.
o Apply critical thinking with a solution-oriented approach.
o Learn and efficiently use various computer programs (PeopleSoft, Concur, TeamMate, etc.).
o Maintain attention to detail and review work for accuracy.
o Prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.

o Successfully navigate various electronic programs including, but not limited, to Microsoft Office Suites, other applicable information technology applications, and self-service platforms.
* Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), demonstrate a customer-focused approach and project a positive image of the Utility to the public.
* Strong interpersonal skills and exercise good judgment.
* Strong computer skills include basic to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook and Adobe Acrobat.
* Strong analytical and problem resolution skills with a focus on finding practical solutions.
* Familiarity with auditing and business intelligence software (TeamMate Analytics and Power BI preferred).
* Knowledge and understanding of GAAP.
* Maintain adherence to all company policies and procedures.

Physical Requirements:

Typically, sedentary work. Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word, receive detailed information through oral communication is required. Substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers, and close visual acuity to operate a computer is required.

Working Conditions:

Duties are primarily performed in an office environment.

Miscellaneous Requirements:

* New hires are informed of the requirements of the Intern Program upon hire, and incumbents must continue to meet the requirements each semester in order to continue employment. Interns who do not meet the requirements may be ineligible for the Intern Program and their employment may be terminated.
* Must be able to work successfully with diverse groups of people.
* Employee must remain alert and aware of their surroundings at all times and maintain the ability to respond to changing circumstances in a timely manner.

Testing may be required.
