Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director of the Center for Community Engaged Media (CCEM), the Program Manager of the Philadelphia Journalism Collaborative will be responsible for maintaining and growing relationships among the collaborative's newsroom partners, guiding the editorial direction of the collaborative, and leading the strategic development of collaborative projects. The Program Manager will manage the allocation of newsroom grants and develop strategies to enhance reporting and journalism across the collaborative. Works closely with other CCEM staff and faculty to encourage trust-building efforts between newsrooms and the community, represents the work of CCEM publicly, and provides input and feedback related to public-facing media outputs related to the activities of the collaborative. The Program Manager will also support the growth and professional development of Klein students associated with the collaborative and deliver occasional training workshops on community engagement, equitable journalism and other community-centered journalism for various stakeholders. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree and at least five (5) years of related experience.
  • Must be a resident of Philadelphia or the Philadelphia area.
  • Mid-to-late career journalist with at least four years of newsroom managerial experience.
  • Must have significant project management experience.
  • Experience in managing projects involving multiple organizations or stakeholders.
  • Must have experience working with urban and diverse communities.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.


Required Skills & Abilities:



  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience with Philadelphia communities and/or local journalism landscape.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community organizing strategies and community engagement methods.
  • Thorough understanding of community-engaged and solutions journalism practices.
  • Ability to occasionally work nights/weekends for community events.


Preferred:



  • Prior experience in leading collaborative journalism projects.
  • Experience mentoring or teaching workshops or courses in community-centered journalism skills.
  • Self-starter, creative-thinker and good listener.
