Position Function
The Associate Director of Foundation Communications is responsible for managing and growing all Foundation and Alumni social media channels, producing and coordinating multimedia content (photo, video, blog), and overseeing student communications staff. This role develops and implements strategic communication plans that support Foundation priorities and strengthen engagement with alumni, friends, and fans. The ideal candidate brings a creative and collaborative mindset, a strong understanding of digital trends, and a passion for storytelling.
Minimum Education
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
Minimum Experience
Two years of experience in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
Minimum Other

  • Strong copywriting, editing, and digital storytelling skills.
  • Proficiency with social media platforms and basic content management tools.
  • Experience using Canva or similar design platforms.
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Sensitivity to confidential information and professionalism within a complex organization.

Preferred Education
Master's degree in related field
Preferred Experience

  • Experience working in higher education, nonprofit, or alumni engagement environments.
  • Familiarity with or experience using tools such as ThankView, WordPress, and InDesign.
  • Experience managing and mentoring student employees or interns.
  • Comfort using camera equipment and assisting in basic multimedia production (photo/video).
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze digital engagement data and use insights to drive strategy.
  • Appreciation for philanthropy, alumni relations, and the mission of public higher education.

Duties & Responsibilities

Content Development & Management

  • Manage and grow the Foundation and Alumni social media presence, including content creation, scheduling, and execution of monthly content calendars and campaigns.
  • Write, edit, and publish blog and newsletter content, including a quarterly e-newsletter.
  • Coordinate and contribute to multimedia content creation, including photo and video, in collaboration with student employees or graduate assistants. While not directly responsible for editing/shooting, this role may assist in content capture and must be comfortable working with camera equipment.
  • Schedule and coordinate photo/video shoots as needed.

  • Hire, train, and supervise student communications employees and/or graduate assistants.
  • Engage with a team of alumni who will serve as year-round digital ambassadors for the Ball State Foundation & Alumni.
  • Lead and manage collaborative, multi-team communications projects and campaigns.
  • Partner with internal Foundation teams to create and execute communication plans for philanthropy and engagement initiatives such as Our Call to Beneficence, the Ball State Fund, Cardinal Varsity Club (CVC), Rising Cardinals, and others.
  • Work collaboratively with campus partners including University Marketing & Communications, Athletics, Colleges, and Student Affairs on large-scale campaigns and content initiatives.
