The Career Advisor is a key front-line staff member responsible for delivering high-quality career services to adults and dislocated workers. This role goes beyond basic case management by actively engaging job seekers, conducting thorough assessments of barriers and strengths, and aligning individuals' interests and aptitudes with in-demand, high-wage career pathways. The advisor must skillfully balance relationship-building with regulatory compliance and data integrity. The ultimate objective is to empower job seekers to secure sustainable employment that leads to long-term career growth.

Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive case management including intake, eligibility determination, enrollment, and ongoing support services for WIOA participants.
  • Conduct holistic assessments to identify barriers to employment, career interests, transferable skills, and training needs.
  • Develop individualized employment plans (IEPs) with clear, attainable goals aligned with high-growth, high-wage occupations.
  • Connect participants to training and support services, including education, certifications, credentials, work-based learning, and wraparound services.
  • Maintain consistent contact with jobseekers, ensure ongoing engagement and regular, high-quality documentation.
  • Monitor progress toward measurable skill gains, credential attainment, and career milestones.
  • Guide job seekers through the labor market and career exploration using up-to-date regional and national employment trends.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant case files (physical and/or digital), to reflect participant activities, outcomes, and support services.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation of credentials, measurable skill gains, employment verification, and other key performance indicators.
  • Balance the demands of program compliance with personalized participant engagement.
  • Coordinate with training providers, employers, and community partners to support career advancement and job placement.
  • Participate in team meetings, continuous improvement activities, audits, and technical assistance trainings.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in human services, counseling, workforce development or related field. Candidates with a combination of lesser education and relevant experience are welcome to apply.
  • At least 3 years of case management or career advising experience, preferably within WIOA or similar workforce development programs.
  • Experience serving individuals with barriers to employment (e.g., justice-involved, low-income, disabled, long-term unemployed).
  • Strong understanding of career pathways, labor market information, and industry trends.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct barrier assessments and build rapport with diverse populations.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail in data entry, documentation, and compliance.
  • Proficiency in using case management systems (such as VOS, SC Works, or similar platforms).
  • Ability to work independently while managing a dynamic caseload.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and critical thinking skills.
