The Associate Scientist - Downstream will be responsible for the hands-on execution of laboratory experiments for the protein purification process and contribute to the development and optimization of processes. He/she will aid in the development of the scientific discovery, new product/applications development along with project planning and execution as per Avantor processes. Responsibilities will include preparing and conducting experiments following Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), managing laboratory equipment, and following other protocols under the general direction of a scientist, project technical lead, and/or area manager. The Associate Scientist will work with a team of research scientists and will assist in driving idea generation and project planning.

What we're looking for:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related scientific field.
  • Experience: Hands-on experience with protein purification techniques and downstream processing preferred.
    • Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and laboratory safety standards.

  • Ability to understand and follow scientific protocols, policies and procedures
  • Must be flexible, forward-thinking, and motivated
  • Able to act independently and manage responsibilities while following scientific direction
  • Must be able to lift 25lbs minimum
  • Basic computing skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (or equivalent)
  • Skilled at prioritizing tasks, problem solving, and meeting deadlines
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team

How you will thrive and create and impact:

  • Downstream Process Execution: Perform bench-scale purification of biologics, such as monoclonal antibodies, bispecific, fusion proteins, or AAV, independently or in collaboration with other scientists. Support pilot-scale material generation and assist in technology transfer activities.
  • Experimental Design & Implementation: Prepare and execute experimental protocols and analytical methods under general guidance. Contribute to the development and optimization of downstream processes.
  • Technical Problem Solving:Identify and resolve process development challenges through data-driven experimentation and innovative thinking.
  • Data Interpretation & Reporting: Analyze, interpret, and summarize experimental data. Present findings clearly in team meetings and contribute to project decision-making.
  • Laboratory Operations: Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments in accordance with SOPs. Ensure accurate documentation of procedures and observations.
  • Product Evaluation:Assess Avantor's technologies-such as chromatographic resins, process additives, and single-use technologies-for their effectiveness in biologics purification workflows.
  • Compliance:Ensure all activities comply with safety, environmental, and quality standards and best practices.

Pay Transparency:

The expected pre-tax pay for this position is

$66,100.00 - $110,200.00

Actual pay may differ depending on relevant factors such as prior experience and geographic location.
