Job Description
The purpose of this position is to lead students in class activities that foster social, emotional, physical, cognitive and creative development of each child. This is accomplished by planning and implementing activities and assignments that are clear, well organized and designed to meet long-range learning goals for students; maintaining a clean and safe classroom environment that meets the College's Early Learning Center ( ELC) standards and MSDE, Maryland State Department of Education Office of Child Care regulations; communicating with students, parents and staff; participating in staff meetings, special events, parent-teacher conferences, and trainings as assigned; measuring student proficiency using various assessment methods and techniques; and completing paperwork as assigned, including lesson plans, incident reports, behavior reports and assessment results. Other duties include creating supply lists and teaching ELC summer camps; answering phone calls and giving tours to potential families as needed.

Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.

Required Education
High School diploma/ GED.
Required Experience
Minimum of 1 year of experience working with children in an MSDE approved setting.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with young children, collaborate with colleagues, and communicate with parents and guardians in a professional and supportive manner.
  • Ability to maintain a safe, clean, and well-organized classroom environment, including routine cleaning and sanitizing of toys, materials, equipment, and surfaces in accordance with health and safety guidelines.
  • Proficiency in preparing and maintaining accurate and timely documentation, including lesson plans, incident and behavior reports, and developmental assessments.
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement a variety of developmentally appropriate assessment tools and techniques to monitor, document, and support student growth and learning outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a nurturing and inclusive classroom climate that promotes social-emotional development, creativity, and a love of learning.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid Training

  • MSDE credentialing Level 2 and above
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Proficient in creating Google slides for classroom use

Preferred Qualifications

  • 90 Early Childhood Education [ECE] Certificate or Child Development Associate [CDA]
  • Associate degree or above in related field

Hours per Week 40 - 100%
General Weekly Work Schedule
40 hours per week, 8:30am-4:30pm/9am-5pm. Schedule could also vary based on need. This will be determined by supervisor.
