Job Title: Patient Access Representative
Location: Detroit, MI Schedule: 11:00 AM - 7:30 PM | 32 hours/week (with potential for additional shifts) Compensation: $19.00/hr + $1.50/hr shift premium = $20.50/hr Shift Requirements: Every other weekend and holiday availability required Training: Full-time (40 hours/week) during training period, 32 hours a week with potential for more! Position Summary: The Patient Access Representative plays a vital role in the Emergency Department by ensuring efficient and accurate patient registration and check-in. This position requires a high level of customer service, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. The representative will be responsible for collecting and verifying patient information, insurance details, and payments, while maintaining a professional and compassionate demeanor. Key Responsibilities: * Greet and assist patients in a courteous and professional manner * Complete full patient registration, including demographic and insurance information * Collect co-pays and provide financial liability education to patients * Ensure accurate documentation and scanning of required legal and medical forms * Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and obtain necessary authorizations * Perform scheduling for diagnostic procedures and post-discharge care as needed * Maintain compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards * Navigate the Emergency Department to support patient flow and registration needs * Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to ensure seamless patient experiences Qualifications: * Minimum typing speed of 35 WPM * Proficient in data entry and use of PC/CRT/printer systems * Strong customer service and communication skills * Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment * Completion of a Medical Terminology course required * Familiarity with third-party payor requirements and compliance standards preferred * Experience with EMR systems and hospital registration processes preferred * Ability to interpret physician orders and insurance documentation accurately * Must be able to work in multiple patient access service areas, including the Emergency Department Preferred Skills: * Medical office or hospital experience * Knowledge of medical insurance and co-pay procedures * Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills * Team-oriented with a collaborative mindset *Pay and Benefits* The pay range for this position is $20.50 - $20.50/hr.
